msolorio Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 ive been lookin at the lews line of reels and the features and quality ive been readin about are insane! even their $89 speed spool has the same exact features and then some of other higher priced reels. i have yet to read anything bad about them. ive been an ardent guy for a bit now but wow, im probably gonna be gettin a lews to see how it matches up or beats my xs600, xs1000, and f700. hmmm could be makin a switch if these things r for real like the seem to be. Packard Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 If you are switching from Ardent to Lews then you will notice a huge difference in quality and performance. 1 Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 I have a Tournament MG Speed Spool I've only used twice that's in new condition (no rash) with box... spooled with 50# 832 I'd sell for $110 TYD. Quote
MrSwimJig Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I have several of the Tournament Pro reels and they are amazing and have performed flawless for me. You will not be disappointed. Quote
msolorio Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 see, those are the types of reviews ive been readin! lol i reeeaallyy want the tournament pro but funds are quite limited at the moment and will be for a bit so im gonna start out with the speed spool($89.99) cus even those things seem to be ridiculous from what ive read. Crankenstein Crony Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I bought 2 of the Lew's Speed Spools last spring, I have a 6:4:1 and a 5:4:1. They are awesome! I really like them a lot. For a reel under $100, they are a good quality reel. I'm not an Ardent fan, they seem/feel cheap to me. You will definitely be glad you made the switch. The Speed Spool is an awesome reel. You won't be disappointed! Quote
msolorio Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 lol yea, i cant wait to get one or 2 speed spools lol the only thing ive been wonderin about is the 10lb max drag. idk if thatll hold up for flippin pitchin the nasty stuff. what you guys think? Quote
livewire84 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I've been very impressed with mine so far! Quote
soopd Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I have 3 speed spools and love them. Caught a ton of fish on them with quite a few large stripe and large catfish with no issues so far. Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I haven't flipped with mine, I've primarily used them for cranking. This past season I caught several pike (by accident) that went 10+ pounds and 1 that went 15 and the Speed Spools dominated those pike! Made quick business of em! I would assume they would do just fine for some flipping. They've handled everything I've ever used them for flawlessly! Quote
Packard Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Fixed it for you Not really, the Speed Spool weighs 8.1 oz while the XS1000 weighs 8.4 oz. Quote
Matt Jungblut Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I have a lews tournament pro speed spool, a curado 200e5, tdz 100m, zillion 100sha, and a sol. The lews works just a good as any of my other reels and i really like the swept handle and knobs. My least favorite is the sol. Quote
msolorio Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 just ordered the speed spool. tw says itll be here monday and I CAN'T WAIT!! its goin on an iROD genesis freds magic stick rod, should be a killer combo. Quote
msolorio Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 i will for sure. i have to wait til tuesday now cus monday is a no transit day, pretty lame but hopefully tuesday comes fast! im gettin a boat thursday so i will most definantly be puttin this iROD/lew's combo through the gauntlet. That's a good point, but keep in mind that you are comparing Ardent's top of the line reel with Lews entry level. Compare apples to apples and you will see a bigger difference. Quote

Compare apples to apples and you will see a bigger difference. He said he is moving form the high end ardent's into the low end lew's speed spool. The XS600 isn't their top of the line reel. Their cheapest reel weighs a solid 8 ounces which doesn't make any sense because their very top of the line weighs 8.7oz..... Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Regardless, for $89.99 you can't beat the Speed Spool. Quote

Not sure where you come from with the 600, I certainly never said it was Ardents top reel. Not really, the Speed Spool weighs 8.1 oz while the XS1000 weighs 8.4 oz. This is what my post was in regard to, you can see he posted the weight of the Speed Spool VS the XS1000 Anyway, certainly nothing to get yourself worked up about. Quote
Hound_dog Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I think you will be happy with your choice of going with the Lew's. I am switching from Curado E-7s and Citicas 200E's to all Lew's reels. The Lew's are much better in my opinion. I tested out an Ardent and did not like them. I agree with the other post they did feel cheap to me. I flip with my Lew's and have zero problems with them flipping. I had a Citica 200E that the gears stripped out on while setting the hook on a fish while flippin. Quote
msolorio Posted December 31, 2011 Author Posted December 31, 2011 yea see i never really liked the curados or any shimano reel for that matter, i honestly think theyre over rated but thats just me. i love my ardents i do but i agree, for $168-$198 reels there are some things about em that i felt could have been better. im startin with the standard speed spool just to see how i like the feel, functionality, and durability of lew's cus i feel that if a companies lower end products work great and stand up to a beating then their higer end products will be second to none. also cus im kinda hard on my gear, i dont just toss it around every where and treat it like crap but i definantly dont baby it. im very excied to get it, i cant wait. oh and im gonna be usin this thing primarily for flippin/pitchin all kinds of cover with heavy line so yea its gotta handle. hound_dog, thanks for lettin me know the lew's is a great flippin reel, i appreciate it brotha.
