crankbait2009 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Has anyone ever carpeted a flat bottom or v bottom fishing boat? Does it look like crap? I mean most of the bass fishing boats are carpeted. With a jon boat looking very industrial, does the carpet actually work? This is coming from a non boat owner. I am planning on buying a boat by this coming spring and just going through all the "costs" in my head........that I know of. This being one of them Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I've seen LOTS of boats go from shells, to fully blown bass rigs, and everything in between. OO Mod, has a nice boat, that I believe is a modified hull turned bass rig. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 Here is my rig the way i picked it up and the way it sits now, with the nnly difference being a different trolling motor and added depth finder up front! Jeff Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 Carpeting looks ok.....it was only my second time doing it, and all of the work I did myself! I also added a rear carpeted deck and rod holders with golf tube inserts that extend under the front deck! Jeff Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 If you were closer or willing to travel I can help! LOL Jeff Quote
crankbait2009 Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 thanks 00mod As you have probably read, I have yet to buy a boat....but have an idea of what I'd like to do...on a strict budget of course Quote
Brine Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 When you say "does the carpet actually work", what do you mean? Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 2, 2012 Super User Posted January 2, 2012 Yes, it's effective. No, it doesn't need to look like crap. If you do it, I'd recommend using some anti-fatigue foam under the carpet to make it more comfortable to stand on for long periods of time. Quote
james 14 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Are you planning on adding a deck or floor? Or buying it with a floor? Many jons come with the bare bottom leaving the stringers exposed. I bought a Lowe 1236 for less than $700 new and added a wood floor and front deck with carpet. The carpet looks good and I have a few tips to make it look good and hold up well if you want. With a 15hp motor I can still run 25mph by myself and it'll plane out with me, a friend and a livewell (modified cooler) full of fish. We aren't heavy guys by any means but it'll still plane and run over 20 with 400lbs of "person" inside plus battery, 6 gal gas tank, tackle and TM. I really like the carpet and it makes a world of difference with the level of comfort in the boat...its just not friendly to treble hooks There are also a few spray-in options if you have an aluminum floor. Hamby Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Definitely want some quality marine carpeting that won't catch hooks. The real advantage i've found is keeping the carpeted area cool. My 14ft with wooden seats can fry an egg in the summer. Quote
crankbait2009 Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Well, my thoughts right now about what I want to buy are rather unclear. Not sure if it is wise to buy a boat with carpeting already in it to where I'm set for a good while till I have the cash to upgrade or if its cheaper for me to buy a bare boat that needs work, such as carpet, right off the bat. Im pretty sure I will want carpet at one point............ Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 4, 2012 Super User Posted January 4, 2012 bassboy1 /\ ?? Yup -- that boy is GOOD! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted January 4, 2012 Super User Posted January 4, 2012 He is awesome! I got a ton of my knowledge through talking with him as well as researching his builds! He is nuts when it comes to building boats, and if I could have afforded him/waited as long as it took, he would have modded mine a little more than I have it now! Jeff Quote
