886fish Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Fishing 4inch tubes. What lead head do you all recommend? Thank You Quote
Bass Junkie Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 1/8 or 3/16oz. These will serve you well unless you are fishing current or deeper than 8 FOW. This is a personal preference call, as are 99% of the answers you will receive, as different times call for different measures. Quote
886fish Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 Hey Bass Junkie, is there a certain manufacturer you like? I assume you fish it exposed most of the time? Quote
Bass Junkie Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I really don't prefer anyone's jig as long as the hooks is good quality. The only way I fish the jigs is with the hook exposed, with the other situations being covered by a good 'ole Texas Rig. I actually fish tubes T-Rigged 99% of the time because of the weedless virtue of a Texas rig, but ther are some weedless internal heads out here. They'd be worth looking at, but I just haven't got around to that. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 Most of the time I fish an exposed hook but I add a weedguard to it. Quote
steverowbotham Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I like the bite me tube heads if youre dragging Quote
basscrusher Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 As stated before, there are a number of good brands out there...Luck E Strike makes good ones with Gamakatsu hooks, VMC makes nice ones, Bass pro's are good too. Mister Twister makes some that are much cheaper with hooks of an unnamed brand, but I've had no problems thus far. One thing that irks me is that tube heads have increased in price exponentially over the last few years. One thing I've done to offset the costs is going over to non-tube jigheads. Bass pro sells a jighead called the Big Bite Stinger jighead made w/ eagle claw hooks. These are meant to be grub heads with extra wide gaps, but they work wells as shaky head hooks and as tube jigs. They slide into a tube just as easily as real tube jigs, and are much cheaper. two words of caution though: first, the hook gap is BIG on these. A 3/16 jighead has a hook that looks saltwater size at first glance. But is isn't too big for smallies. second, they might snag easier because of the EWG feature, but they're cheaper so you won't miss them as much. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 30, 2011 Super User Posted December 30, 2011 I learned to drag tubes from the master.............3/8 oz no matter the depth, 90 degree jig head, 3/0 hook. 3.5 inch tube. Catch fish, cast drag, repeat. Quote
robdob Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Fishing 4inch tubes. What lead head do you all recommend? Thank You bass pro shops walleye jig heads.. they are kinda wide and flat on the bottom ... if your fishing somewhere with gobies i havent found anything better for making the tube take on the shape of a gobie Quote
Dave T. Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Yep, the Bite-me tube jigs are great... they come with "Gama" hooks! Plus, they are priced nice. Quote
NBR Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Like Jig Man but no weed guard. My lakes have few weeds, even fewer woody areas but a ton of rocks for cover. They are very clear and deep so long casts light line or fluorocarbon. Quote
telmomarques Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 i use owner phantom hook, its jighead/texas style for tubes. its weedless and its action is similar to jighead Quote
Brandon K. Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 3/8 oz. SFT tackle tube head with a weed guard. The 100 pack is good value for a great jig head. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 3/16 to 3/8 tube heads. 3/0 hooks and ALWAYS exposed. A friend pours them for me and the price is right because we loose several every trip. Wire hooks for fun fishing and Gammies in tournaments. Quote
