msolorio Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 so the fiance got me some great gifts for christmas but all relating to my mma training/fighting. she surprised me the next day by saying she was gonna give me an early birthday gift of my choice. i fish smaller bodies of water and have always been a bank beater so i thought a lil 2 person pond boat would be awesome! i found one for 300 bux, boat, trailer, seats, oars, 32lb thrust minn kota trolling motor, and everstart battery. amazing deal but i cud also use another rod and reel combo for the upcoming tournament season.... so yea as u can see im in a bit of a bind, heeeelllpp! any suggestions or opinins r welcomed cus i cant make up my mind lol Quote
scrutch Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I think you might get more use out of a pond boat. Going from a BB to a boater is a huge change. Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I would go with the boat. Picking up a small boat with all that gear for $300 is a steal! Getting new rods and reels is always awesome, but fishing from shore you are kinda limited in what you can do. A small boat opens up all kinds of possibilities! Quote
Red Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I used to beat the banks as well. Finally got a 2 man boat like your referring to. best move I ever made. get the boat and start saving for another combo, you can only use one at a time anyway!! Quote
Super User deep Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 Definitely get off the shore. The next purchase should be an entry level fish finder. Good luck! Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 Go for the boat. Deals like that seem to be few and far between. Least for me anyway. Quote
Bass Junkie Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Boat... As is the general consciences. Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 Agree about the boat. The best rod/reel made is worthless if you can't get to where the fish are. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Boat for sure....its like going from walking to driving.. Quote
quanjig Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Yep, boat all the way. You will be amazed at the progression you will make as an angler. Small things will start to make more sense once you explore open water. Good luck and don't forget all the safety equipment required by your state. Have fun but be safe! Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 LOL....Wait till your married. You won't want physical items on your birthday. Quote

bt fisherman Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 If you r looking for a casting reel, i wud go with the abu garcia revo s they are not to expensive, they dont break they are very tough , and the cast great. it depends on what way u are fishing for what rod to use but i like st croix or g loomis.
