I'm just curious too see how many people rely on Stren? I've tried alot of lines, Trilene, Sufix, Spiderwire, and P-Line. But I've stopped using those brands. For the past 3 years I have gained COMPLETE confidence in Stren. I think in the bass fishing world and industry, it is overlooked in under the radar.

So what do you guys think about Stren?

It's all about confidence right? ( or so they say :P ) I've used a lot of different Stren lines, the only one I have YET to try is their fluorocarbon. I am currently using Stren Sonic braid right now on one of my rods; I think it's deff. one of the best braids I've used. Their regular monofilaments are great too, plus Bill Dance was always using it. And if a pro is faithful in it, then why not be...

Their braid is decent, and their mono is proven to be just plain regular mono. However, I think their fluorocarbon is absolute trash. Also, if your looking for a good mono look no further than Sufix Seige. It's one of the most popular mono's on this board for good reason.

Matter of opinion, I think stren mono is one of the worse lines on the market. Never had any other line have such spool memory, have lines break mysteriously during backlashes, an have such a long stretch.

Considering Stren sponsors some high visibility tournaments and several big time pros, it's hard to consider them "under the radar."

I've had good luck with their super knot and loved their high impact line for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits but can't ever find it anymore. I like the sonic braid but I go with Seaguar if I'm fishing heavy cover or really clear water.

These days I fish almost exclusively with braid, but before that, Original Stren was one of my most-used lines.

i have had horrible experiences with Stren and Trilene mono. I use 6 lb mono on my panfish setups, and trilene and stren just breaks everytime i tie a knot. I switched over to Sufix elite, and have never looked back. All my reels have either Sufix Elite or Sufix ProMix, except for 2 rods with Power Pro. I can honestly say i have never had a break off while fighting a bass since iv switched to Sufix.

Stren superbraid was awesome, to bad they discontinued it. Stren line is also great for certain apps.

Wow - that's certaainly a can of worms. You'll get every opinion form love to hate on this one. I still fish Stren but not as often as I used to. I have over 40 baitcasters and a dozen or so spinning reels but only have clear/blue Stren 8# & 10# on two reels - one each spinning and baitcaster and have been satisfied with it. I fish a lot of Sufix in "Deep Crankin' ",Elite, "832" braid and Performance braid - love 'em. "Deep Crankin'" is a great lline - more dense than mono but not as dense or pricey as fluoro. I also am partial to Trilene Sensation which has never let me down. The best line for you is the one you hae the most confidence in - period. If you're more careful with your knot tying you'll have no problem with most of the lines. And keep them out of the sun - don't leave them in your vehicle in either summer or winter. You might occasionally get a sub-par spool from any manufacturer but I've been fortunate to have great luck with most EXCEPT original Berkley Vanish - trash line. Oh, and I'm not a fan of Seguar CarbonPro fluorocarbon (except Seguar Invisex - very nice line).

Now that I've muddied the water for you - good luck.

Ive fished Stren mono since I was 10. I fish Spiderwire 65# on all my regular Bass kickin rigs due to heavy cover I fish in, but my baitcaster I keep in the car for emergency purposes is fitted with 10# Stren mono. I like their products. Floro is good too, fairly cheap also. 6# on my UL.

Yeah Superbraid is nice still have a reel with #8 on it that gets used for gills its like 5-6 y/o. Just when new there was lots of coating on it and gummed the reel some.

i primarily fish mono and stren has been pretty good to me when ive used it in the larger sizes. right now i got a couple spools of stren in 10lb and 20lb. otherwise i mostly use big game which ive never broke off a fish with. the stren 10lb mono makes me nervous, doesnt appear to be as strong as it should be. ive broken off 2 fish with it, and only have it on one reel now. also my bro-in-law needed some line to put on his spincaster and all i had with me was that line, every cast would break off on him...

Been using original stren in 17lb for many years, and never had a problem. I have been using Stren Duro Tuf in 12lb and 14lb, I bought some 3000 yard spools a couple of years ago, and that stuff is some strong line.

I use Stren 6# on my spinning reels for crappie cranks and 1/8 oz roadrunner jigs for crappie and white bass, have had no problems with it breaking or wadding up in a ball while casting. I use the 14# stren on my crankbait rod also with good results, everything else I use trilene 100% flouro or power pro, but the stren is a good mono for certain applications!

I stopped using Stren when I was ten! As far as mono goes I feel comfortable with Trilene, as floro goes I am choosing Seaguar, and Power Pro is the go to for braid.

My comments pertain to the use of Original Stren mono.

Have been using Original Stren for decades. I'm a line junky and keep trying to find a mono that has all around qualities of flexibility, tensile strength, abrasion resistance and shock strength on short line cross their eyes hook sets. Have not found one better than Stren. Only use it on baitcasting reels in the 12-17 pound range.

I go with Trilene XL in 10 # test and lighter when I want flexibility and go with Sensation when I want a high tensile strength line.

The only time I've ever had a problem with line breakage on a hook set was when I was careless and let the knot get in the "open" area of the hook eye. It does not take too many hook sets before the line breaks.
