bassinri Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I was at Dicks a few days back and saw a endcap for these new hooks endorsed by Shaw Grigsby. They are put out by Lazer asnd are called Tro-kar. Supposed made of surgical steel. They came in this flashy back and blue custom package and they were 9 freakin 99 for 6 hooks! I have to say things are getting a bit out of hand. I dont care if they have a special lazer point or not. Would you buy these? Am I alnoe in my disgust, lol. Quote

DockMaster, rather than sounding rude in your reply, how about providing a link for him to the other thread so he can get the answers on the hooks that he is looking for. Bassin, I would get the link for you, but I didn't even know that this question has been asked. BTW, I haven't seen them yet but $10 seems mighty steep for hooks. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 This has already been covered, and yes I will try some. Mom and Dad must have upped your allowance.... I am with the OP and Senko on this. That is a bit much for hooks, especially untested hooks. Quote
catchbig0bass Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Heck if you think about it all a hook is a piece of metal bent and a small pc at that. Thats rediculous price. Ill still to my EWG's at 3.88$ wally world 3/0 for a 5 pack. Heck I can get 15 hooks for the price of these and have the same catch ratio. Quote
Koop Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I had made a post about these a week or two ago, many were claiming that the flipping hook had issues and was breaking. I can't find my post anywhere though Quote

Well now, I don't know about these hooks specifically, but high quality hooks are a must if you think you might ever have a shot at trophy bass. Hooks are THE most important fishing gear you own. 8-) Quote
D4u2s0t Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 i recently picked up 50 mustad 4/0 twistlock hooks for 22 dollars on ebay. that's where i get my hooks since they are so expensive. i also picked up 50 gammy 3/0 hooks for around 18 dollars. Quote

Lake Stumpy Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I ordered a pack of 5/O EWG TroKar hooks to try, I will post after I try them. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 After reviewing the previous posts and this one, I got a question about hook points. Is it better to cut the flesh for hook penetration or punch thru it to keep the fish attached to the hook? I guessing a punch thru with a round tapered point hook is more secure since the hole made will close around the hook shank rather than the flesh being cut and cannot close around the hook shank. Bigger hole=more lost fish Opinions???? Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 That is RIDICULOUS imo! I would never pay that much for 6 hooks! Quote

Koop Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I really wish I could find the thread I started about these. A few people had tried out the flipping hooks and had several of them break. I would try these out but plan to wait for them to work out the kinks. Quote

Super User fishfordollars Posted August 19, 2009 Super User Posted August 19, 2009 I guess I'm a sucker. I have two packs coming. If they do what they say, I'll certainly buy them. Quote
Bull Hurley Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 If they do what they say, I'll certainly buy them. What are they supposed to do besides penetrate a fishes lip? I have zero problems with my Gammakatsu's and Owner's so I will stick with a proven product at a 1/3 or less the price. Quote
looking4structure Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I will try them.Really the only time i have problems with hook sets is when I'm fishing top water frogs(rage and zoom) Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted August 20, 2009 Super User Posted August 20, 2009 Wow, the hype machine is in overdrive. Let's see here. The majority of individual state LMB and SMB records are decades old. Which means they were caught before the advent of this *ahem* new technology. I bet even a few were caught with old school Eagle Claws, which a lot of people consider to be junk. This reminds me of razor blade commercials where they hype the crap out of basically a sharpened piece of stainless steel and then want you to spend $18.00 for a pack of them. I like a quality hook as much as the next guy but this is just silly Quote
