What's a good crankbait for small and/or shallow ponds? One place I fish is only 16 feet deep in a corner that i never get bit in, the other side is 4-6 feet deep and pretty nasty with slime on bottom and weeds on top.

The other pond is really a golf course lake that's is huge. You need special permission to fish the "golf course part" and hole number 8 swiftly drops to 15 feet deep off the green so I'm not concerned about crankbaits there. Right now we've only got permission for the "owner" lake which connects to the golf course lake via a dam and spillway. The spillway side is shallow about 5 feet deep. I've got a few weeR crankbaits and a teenyR, but somebody told me the weeR will swim some 12-14 feet. I don't believe it but I guess something that small has little drag on it. What do you recommend?

Try the baits in the link below, they work awesome for me in a pond that sounds similar to the one you are fishing. I have caught as many as 30 bass in one day using these crankbaits.

I'll second the Lazer eyes!  Used them all spring and killed the LMB in a couple of ponds I frequent which aren't over 8ft deep.  Tenn Shad worked best and if you keep the rod tip high and reel slow it will act as a wake bait for the early morning bite.

A good shallow crank and pond crank for me has been the Rapala DT 3.

Manns baby 1- is my all time favorite crank regardless of depth.  Nice, tight wobble & it doesn't hang up too bad in the trees.  I've used the lazer eye & it has nice action, but it seems like it's just too loud.

agreed, while its not my all time favorite.... i do love the baby 1 minus... i have it in baby bass, and it produces quite well in all of the shallow ponds that i fish.

Daiwa peanut, make sure to change the hooks, the stock ones SUCK.

Bandit 100 series

Rapala DT 4

H20 express shallow runners

Strike king HC1

All depends on the depth you want it to run though. A lot of people don't crank in ponds, big mistake if you ask me. Just learn what the bottom is like. I would not throw them around exposed cover though (i.e. old dock pilings or submerged trees). I have had the most success cranking on flats that are not very weedy .
