Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 26, 2011 Super User Posted December 26, 2011 Nice, I had a decent haul as well. - Luna 300 - coming soon. - A couple "generous" checks from relatives. - A whole lot of TW dollhairs - Another F&S flannel shirt (that makes 4, a must have shirt) - Wool socks - incredibly comfortable. - New boxers - New moccasins - A VERY nice present from hookingem that will be put to good use More importantly though, I gave each of my family members a gift that I spent a lot of time thinking about, which to me is more important that getting what I want. It's shocking to me that I'm one of the only kids I know that buys gifts for family as well... most of my friends just sit there and open their presents. As nice is it is to receive gifts, it is many more times enjoyable to give gifts to people that appreciate what you've done. Apparently you've already leaned that lesson. I put that "appreciate what you've done" comment in because I no longer try to buy my wife a Christmas gift unless she is present. (And even then it is usually only for a piece of jewelry.) I use to take her shopping, and let her point out items she liked. Then I would buy from those items she pointed out. She invariably exchanged the gifts. That doesn't bring me any pleasure, so I quit buying for her. On the other hand, my daughter and grandsons enjoy their gifts. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 26, 2011 Super User Posted December 26, 2011 Like at least one previous poster, I bought myself several Christmas gifts ealier when they were on sale. A Curado 51E, 2 Cabela's XMLTi 6'6" MH casting rods (one each old and new models), a mint Patriarch XT and some line. Also picked up a used Chronarh 200B in very nice shape and a Daiwa SS-II 2500C in like new condition.. I will be picking up a couple more rods after the first of the year. One spinning for the 2500C and one or two more casting rods for my extra reels. I'm thinking of the Daiwa 7'3" Medium on sale at TW for the 2500C if one is still available then. Have to buy without seeing, but hope the longer rod will balance well (for spinning outfit) with this reel. Quote
Missouribassman95 Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 First year I didn't recieve any gear, but I got alot of checks, and 175$ in BPs gift cards. I got my dad new tacklebox, and some crappie lures. I was more excited for him to open the gift I got him then open my own lol. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted December 27, 2011 Super User Posted December 27, 2011 The adults in my family don't generally exchange too many gifts, but I did get a nice hoodie from my mom. You'll likely see it in one of my trout pics this winter, LOL. Quote

Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 New Rig, last one at Bass Pro, day after Christmas. Soooooo smoooooth! Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 Gave my son a BPS card, an assortment of hard baits (topwaters, cranks, jerkbaits) and his first baitcast setup. We were just practicing a little in the pond in the back yard, and he's doing pretty well with it. By the time he's six he'll be slinging it out there. I missed this. I gave my little boy his first "very own" casting combo this year for Christmas. He'd latched on to one of my Core 51 GLX combos. It so happens that I found an NRX that had been returned, so I put a Core 51 on that and it's now his. I knew I'd either have to get him his own or never see mine again, so that's what I did. He's likely the most well geared 6 year old I've ever seen; if that's what it takes for him to fish with me, I'd buy him a million of them. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 The Cabelas XMLTi present from my wife mentioned earlier with a Quantum Accurist AC101 HPT 7.0:1 mounted for now. 1 Quote
jeb2 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Shimano Calcutta TE250 DC reel and an NRX JWR893 top the list. Not a combo, though. Reel goes on a Loomis CBR906, and I'll likely put one of my Steez's on the 893. But the best part was being with the family. Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Quote
piscicidal Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 How old is your son now? What setup did you get him? It is so much fun to fish with your children. Some of the best times of your life. Enjoy him while you can. My son is six (I made a mistake in my previous post) . I gave him a quantum energy pt reel wth 6'6" bps extreme rod. I need to be careful as hes' becomg somewhat of a "snob" when it comes to gear....doesn't want to fish with senkos anymore. They're "too easy". Doesn't want to use spinning gear, anymore, either. Loves fishing top waters. When he caught a peacock bass on a tiny torpedo, it was all over! Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 didnt really get much in the way of fishing. my mom and her husband got me an abu garcia ambassadeur 6601 C4 baitcaster, the left handed model =) and my little sister got me a pack of storm sunfish swim baits. Quote
Packard Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 not exactly gear but... You'll love Kayak Fishing if this is your first kayak. I fish exclusively from my Kayak expect in flw tournaments. Quote
Super User deep Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 After deciding what baits I wanted to fish and how, I sold a couple of rods, and three reels; bought two new rods, and three used reels over the last month. This is what I got in the way of rods and reels for myself after buying gifts for others. #1. Shimano Symetre 2500, bought used from here to go on my Powell Max 733 MXF. #2. Powell Max 753 MH/XF football jig rod (TW special), and Shimano Citica 201D 7.0:1. Rod is new, reel was bought used from ***. #3. Okuma Guide Select 7'11 H Big Bait Rod, and Shimano Cardiff 401A. Rod is new, reel was bought used from SBNation. 1 Quote

Packard Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Added two new combos for this season. One is my Plastics setup which is a BPS Carbonlite 6.4:1 Reel and a e21 Carrot Stix Original 6'6" MH/F with a Sweet Beaver. The other is my Flip, Pitch, and punch setup. It is a Shimano Curado 200E7 on a G.Loomis GLX Fsr 905x with a Buckeye Flat Top Finesse Jig and a Paca Chunk Trailer. Quote

Quitlimpin Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Got hooked up real fat this year. 2 new sweet setups and another reel on the way thanks to a nice Christmas bonus. Wife found me 2 gently used chronarch 50mgs, a bcr803 glx and a lami don iovino 6'2" ml. Also finally took the plunge and ordered an orange pixy. Super stoked and very grateful!!! Quote
