BigBassin144 Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Picked up some stick-on eyes for my Poison Tail jigs and they look great, but don't stick well... A dot of superglue under them seems to work, but it leaks out and gets on the head and my fingers. The last couple I've covered with as thin a layer as I could of Devcon 2T, but it is a lot of work and there's still a lot on the head. So what do you guys use to keep them on? Quote
cadman Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I currently only use Devcon 2 Ton and E-tex. I cover the entire jig which works for me and adds protection for the jig as well. Quote
River Rat316 Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Yep, no real short cut here, and believe me I have tried them all, I am currently still glueing and then coating with an epoxy after wards, and I do thousands of jigs and spinnerbaits a year with eyes. If you want your eyes to stay on for longer than a few fish or casts even this is the only way to go. Quote
jbass Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 I currently use the 3D stick-on eyes on my crankbaits and cover them with Devcon when it's time to put the finish on the bait. Quote
jwfflipper Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Clear finger nail polish ...(hard as nails brand) works well Quote
backwater4 Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Devcon works well, as does the Components Systems clear coat. Like the others have said, there is no real easy way. I normally make sure the eyes are good and covered. If the ends are up a little, they come off easy. Quote
jbass Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 I also drill a seat for the eyes if you will. This gives the appearance of a real eye. I've found if there is a small void under the eye after adding the epoxy an air pocket will form and it won't seal properly. There will be a small pin hole next to the eye where it has off-gassed. So if you use this approach for seating eyes on crank baits be aware of this situation that could occur. Quote
BigBassin144 Posted December 26, 2011 Author Posted December 26, 2011 Thanks guys! I'm gonna give a couple more things a try. My main problem right now is that the Devcon 2T is pretty thick and I tend to get too much on the eyes. I'll keep giving it a try. I'm sure it will get neater the more of them I do. Quote
