Packard Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 They just moved the models down a level. The Curado 200E was 179.99 and the new Chronarch 200E is $200 and it just came out. So it isn't as big of a deal as you guys make it out to. It isn't the exact same reel either. I'm not saying it is a better reel but it isn't the EXACT same reel. Low and behold I just bought a Curado 200E a week ago and was happy with the $130 I spent for it at Gander Mtn. Quote

The Chronarch has a couple small changes, but if you're cool with green definitely get the Curado. If you hate green and would never own a green reel, go with the Chronarch because it is still a great reel at that $200 price point. Quote

HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I keep reading posts that the Curado E's and the new Chronarch E's are the same. I've fished the Curado's (4 of them) for 3 seasons. Bought one Chronarch E, liked it so much I bought 4 more. I respectfully disagree with them being the same reel. There are a few differences, the most noticeable is the Curado is much sloppier(loose free-spooling) than the new Chronarch's, not to mention the greater casting distance achieved with the Chronarch E's. Glad you found that post. I looked for it last night and missed it. Also, like he points out the handle and spool, the schematics on shimanos site I see different part numbers for the brake case for the spool. This is probably due to the coating on the spool. I think the name change was silly, but happy they keep the reel. Bantam had hinted to this price increase when the Curado 50e came up at $199. He made a statement that the curado 200e's should be $199 but they had an agreement with the factory. Either way a great reel gets to stay around with more option in gears and lefty's. Quote

Flip them, and it'll be like new. Rookie casters usually run their spool tension too tight, nad casting wears them down. Having seen both reels COMPLETELY disassembled side by side, I can confirm theier is no difference mechanically. I don't find either to have different tolerances either. Just a cosmetically different spool and handle, and a new paint job. Quote
