krisjack69 Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I bought a couple of the Rage Hawgs from Tw last week to only find out the things were only like 4 inches long and I was thinking they would be the same size as the brush hogs which is 6 inches so these things looked like a baby in comparison lol.I did'nt notice the size till I opened them up the other day to fish them.I guess they will be good on a northstar jig or maybe a shakey head but thats about it.I may order some 5 inchers somewhere.Cant find Blue Craw in the 5 inch size though. bassh8er Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 You bought the regular Brush Hogs and not the Baby Brush Hogs and they sent a smaller size? Sounds weird, but TW has always been good to me, so I'm sure they'll make it right if you give them the chance. Good luck, they're both good baits. Quote
krisjack69 Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 Sorry I meant Rage Hawgs.I didnt know the size difference between the Rage Hawg vs the Brush Hog.Rage Hawg is 4 inches vs the Brush Hog is 6 inches but they have a Rage Hawg in a 5 inch size that I did not know about which I would have surely gotten that one but its my mistake should've read the sizes on the description if they have that on there sometimes they dont have that info on there. matstone7 Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 The Rage Hawg is only available in the 5" model as far as I know. Don't get bummed over the size, you can be assured that the Rage Hawg will work and work quite well. T/rig that thing! Quote
Vinny Chase Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 if it makes you feel any better I only use the baby brush hog because they out fish the brush hog 10:1. I only have a few packs for when I NEED a kicker fish. Quote
Big-O Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I'm thinking you received the SK Game Hawg from TW and not the Rage Hawg. The Rage Hawg is actually 6" when tear tabs are detached and bait is swimming. It is 5" snuggled in the package and the attached photos should help you understand... Also detach the front arms because they swim too. Hope that helps and YES, the Rage Hawg does just fine in front of a BASS Here's a video link that shows the action of the Rage Hawg along with 4 other RT designs. I think the action improvements over other hawgs is noticable. www.ragetail.com Quote

krisjack69 Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Yeah I got the game hawg. That was the only one that had my color Blue Craw. That color worked real well for me on the Ocho and I think every plastic bait should have that color. They look alike so I guess it little more complicated then brush hog and brush hog jr lol.Game hawg and Rage Hawg its easy to mix em up especially online retailer u cant actually see the baits in the bag to tell how big they are. There plan worked cause I bought some Rage Hawgs from BPS so I should be happy now lol.Just got confused little bit since never used those baits before. The only sk bait I have used is there premier plus spinnerbaits, ocho and there frogs.I also just ordered there caffeine shads few weeks ago.It seems to have a different action to me than the flukes did. Can't wait till spring to use them.Looks to be raining for about 3 days or so then turn cold so I think I would be wasting my time trying to catch a fish cause I think they are confused right now with the weather wants to do.Down in south ga if u dont like the weather wait 5 minutes.I had BPS ship it through the post instead of fedex lol.I never really liked fedex there boxes usually were smatched or whatever.I dont want that fedex guy that smatched the pc monitor to come here lol. Big-O Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Good to know and I hope you like'em... The Rage Hawg is responsible for about 20% of the catches from my boat this year and many were over 10lbs. BTW, it will also catch bass as small as it is www.ragetail.com Quote
krisjack69 Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 What is a good hook to use with the game hawg and rage hawg.I have some 3/0 4/0 gammy and a 5/0 I believe trokar hook. All EWG.I dont like the hook point in the trokar since its hard to skin hook the bait the odd shape like u can with a gammy.I haven't noticed any difference in performance between the two besides the one i mentioned above.I think i will stick with mustad and gammy. Big-O Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 3 or 4/0 on game hawg and 4 to 5/0 on the Rage Hawg. As you mentioned, EWG's are useful when skin hooking. With the Trokar hook that you've mentioned or a J hook, straight shank etc., you can leave the hook point just below the plastic surface and it should work just fine... provided the hook point is sharp and the hook set is adequate. www.ragetail.com Quote
krisjack69 Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Ok I will try that.Leave the hook point inside the plastic just a bit. Quote
Primus Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 I agree the baby brush hog is more of a numbers bait, but still catches big fish. The brush hog is like a big jig, it's the money bait. Totally agree about the full size Brush Hog, that bait certainly gets the big bite. Quote
Big-O Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Often in clear, calm conditions and smaller/shallow waters... downsizing is key for the bite and in opposite conditions upsizing might be the answer... www.ragetail.com Quote
