bassh8er Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I did a search, but didn't find anything about these rods I was looking at them at Cabela's today, and was interested in the cranking rod. Anybody have any experience with these? They are the newer model with the split grips and a greenish/blue tint to the blank. Just looking for some input on these as my cranking rod search continues... Any input on this rod or another cranking rod in the $150 and under range would be appreciated. Had a Skeet, but didn't like it and got rid of it. I have 4 Mojos now, and was looking at the 'Crankster' but I primarily throw little squarebills and shallow cranks and it's a little beefy for that I think. Quote
dgretz Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 You will not be disappointed with a Shimano rod. I have 2 Compres and 1 Crucial; all of the older versions. They have improved both lines; you will not find a better buy. Light, very sensitive and great warranties. Quote
Packard Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 The compre is a nice rod. I haven't used the cranking version but will assume it lives up to the other rods. I throw a lot of squarebills and I find a graphite rod to be better for this application. I throw them on a 6'6 M/F St Croix Premier. I love that rod for it. Some others you may want to look at are the Powell Max and Powell Endurance which are both on sale on ***. Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I have a 7ft medium heavy Compre. It is a very nice rod! Especially for the price. They are light weight and sensitive. It was the first Shimano rod I ever bought and it hasn't disappointed! If you are looking for a cranking rod, check out the Quantum KVD rods. I have 4 of them and they are awesome! I have a 7ft and a 7'4 and I throw my smaller cranks on those rods and they have been great! I won't buy any other cranking rods ever again! Quote
3dees Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I just bought two from ***. one jig and one casting. I have been using the older style Compre's for years and for the price they can't be beat. it will be a while before I can use them but the new rods with the split grips feel great. I like cork handles but these handles allow your fingers to come in direct contact with the rod. should be great for jigging. Quote
