Fishing By Moon Phase?

Ive read a few articles recently about some guys who fish according to the moon phase. They say 3 days before or after a new moon or 3 days before or after a full moon are the best times and a lot of times the fishing can be magnificent during these times. Combine it with a cold front about to come through and its lightning fishing. Anyone fish this way? I literally havent caught crap this winter and im trying new things. Any tips on this?

When it comes to fishing, if I get a chance to go, I go. I don't stay off the water because of the solunar tables or any other formulation that supposedly tells when the fishing will be good or bad.

I've had good fishing on cloudless bright sunny days when the water is like glass, and I've had bad fishing under the same conditions. Likewise for breezy, cloudy, drizzly days. Full moon, new moon, quarter moon, half moon, cold fronts, rising barometer, dropping barometer, I may be dead wrong, but I don't give 'em a thought. The thing is this. It's always nicer to have poor fishing on a good day than to have poor fishing on a lousy day.

None of it really matters since I'm going to fish anyway.

I have been keeping records now for some time....weather conditions, watercolor/levels, baro, anthing I can think of and moon phase is one of them. I have scheduled my vacations on days that were supposed to be premo for fishing according to the moon and bombed. Have also had excellent trips on days when the fish weren't supposed to be biting. I think so many other factors trump the effect that the moon has that it becomes a non-issue in most cases. I know there are musky guys that swear by moon phases. If it has any effect IMO it would be on ultra clear water lakes where there may be major feeding going on at night that could effect the day bite.

I agree with the Rhino. Fishing time is to precious to worry about about moon phase or other factors. I do take note of the moon phase because it makes a better excuse for blanking than lack of skill.

6 of the 8 largest bass I have caught ( all over 10# ) were caught either 2 or 3 days before the full moon... That is is more than a coincidence to me.. I try to be on the water those days..

The full moon phase is important during pre-spawn and spawning period and again during summer nights.

There are 21 lunar nights in each moon cycle, the 5 night period; 2 nights before and after the new and full moon are considered active period. The fall and winter the new moon night cycles are good to plan your trip around.
