Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 22, 2011 Super User Posted December 22, 2011 Pretty much a lackluster year as far as size and numbers, did manage maybe 8 or 10 bass 6-10# range, and a few peacocks that I haven't caught in 2 years. I don't keep track of a personal best. My snook fishing has been terrible, biggest was only 37" caught on a poppa dog and my numbers were nothing to brag about this year. Offshore I did ok, quite a few sailfish, aj's, cobia and kings, the highlight of my year was getting spooled a couple of times on max drag, G-d only knows what it was(probably wahoos). 2012 goal, making it to 2013. loodkop Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Had a reasonable year but nothing spectacular. Did not spend enough time on the water. 2012 Need to get in more social/practice days. Want to make my first swimbait and try painting a couple of cranks. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 22, 2011 Super User Posted December 22, 2011 2011 Accomplishments 1. Did not fall out of the boat. 2. Did great with tournaments. 3. Caught a bunch of big ones over five pounds. 2012 Accomplishments to Shoot For 1. Do not fall out of the boat. 2. Check out the Alabama Rig. 3. Have fun in tournaments. 4. Go for a seven pounder (and I know where she lives as Hookingem caught her this year). 5. Obey the traffic speed limits when towing the boat. 6. Not cussing as much when fishing. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted December 22, 2011 Super User Posted December 22, 2011 ...............2012 goal, making it to 2013. Best goal on this thread! Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 2012 is going to be an interesting year....but to stick to strictly fishing goals.....have my boat done before the smallies are on their beds. Catch a 6lb smallmouth. Finesse up all my presentations. Fish some oldies but goodies.....and fish a tournament out of my own boat....one of my other goals...not really fishing but I'm excited so....learn some primitive living skills and practice them with my boys then take a fw"survival" camping trips. Bass Junkie Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 2011 Accomplishments- Fished jigs a lot more Tied my PB Smallmouth...Twice Caught a bass on the King Daddy Caught five bass over five pounds on the same night, the same night that my best fishing partner caught his PB largemouth on a topwater Caught a 27 1/2" Carp on a 6wt. fly rod on a self-tied fly after stalking him for 15+ minutes Caught a 4lb+ bass out of a small public pond. Hadn't seen or caught one that big in two years in that pond.... Really boosted my confidence in that pond 2011 Disappointments- Didn't catch as many big fish as I did last year Somehow strayed from topwaters (With the exception of the frog) Didn't catch nearly as many fish as I'd liked to have... But it seemed like everyone around here had off-years Couldn't stop swimming a jig long enough to fish it normally The lake where I caught my PB was totally drained because some hair-brained architect used an iron pipe for the spillway overflow. Not a lake at all, but it was the best public lake I'd ever found. Had more 5lb+ bass out of that lake than any other, and it was frog fishing heaven. Now its just a bare mud flat with a ton of rotting dead largemouth in it..... 2012 Goals- Catch more bass consistently Get back on track with the bigger fish Catch a 30"+ Carp on a fly rod Get back on the topwater pattern Finally break my 4lb. PB rut with the smallies Nail a 8lb.+ Largemouth... Not likely for a Northern Strain, but I'm giving it my best shot Take the top at the local tournament trail. Quote
steverowbotham Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 2nd place AOY Next year I want my #1 back. Lost to a good friend so handing the trophy over wasnt so bad, or it was worse, I havent quite decided! LOL Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted December 22, 2011 Super User Posted December 22, 2011 2011 brought some great times and some really bad times as far as the pocket book is concerned, the expence of fishing has kept me at home more than on the water. I do not see it getting any better in the near future for 2012 but we will see, if it does change for the better my goal will be to keep youngster's involved in this great sport and to continue helping our wounded vets. GOD BLESS AMERICA and I certainly wish all of you a VERY MERRY Christmas and a happy new year, I hope the new year brings all of you joy and prosperity and whatever else your fishing dreams are made of. BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 23, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 23, 2011 2011 Accomplishments 1. Did not fall out of the boat. 2012 Accomplishments to Shoot For 1. Do not fall out of the boat. My favorite so far! My accomplishment: 2011 was spent fishing with Nicole, Taylor and Nick. I did not catch anything outstanding (7 lbs was my biggest) but they ALL had PB's this year. 2012 - I am claiming that I will be a factor in the 2012 Accent Team trail. I have 3 partners available that are on a roll. Quote
Fat-G Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 My list that I just made, which is the "realistic" version: 2012: Goals 1. Break three known pond records. All of my ponds have records above my PB. They range from 9-13 lbs. I have confirmed all of them, and have confirmed to my inner-self that I could accomplish this goal. 2. Catch a bass that is more tat or more than 75% of our state's LM record. I could accomplish this as well. 3. Personally consider myself a trophy hunter, meaning that I specifically dedicate my time to catching monster bass. I fish jigs and plastics almost exclusively, but don't consider myself a trophy hunter. Yet. 2011: Accomplishments I didn't beat my PB, which was my main goal. I did however learn a lot about targetting big fish, which will be a major factor in my 2012 season. Caught three bass over 7 lbs. Caught a couple big fish on crankbaits. Caught my first dropshot fish, as well as my first shakeyhead fish. Both under two pounds. 38 bass in the 4-7 lb. range, with 65% of them being five pounds or bigger. Quote

salmicropterus Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 2011 Accomplishments: Won a couple club tournaments and Big Basses within some of the tournaments. Learned to pattern the fish a bit better toward the end of the year. Salvaged some bad days with some good decision making. 2012 Goals: Get within top 3 in AOY in my club standings. To do this, I'll have to be more consistent and eliminate the bad tournaments. Learn how to produce on Lake Okeechobee when the wind is blowing 20 out of the north. Become more productive when pitching and flipping. And yes... not fall off the boat. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted December 27, 2011 Super User Posted December 27, 2011 I learned to fish two more Deep South impoundments more effectively, placing very high in three and winning a fourth and fifth tournament on said lakes (I owe Catt and one "FishforDollars" a tremendous amount for their insight on one in particular.) I won a Table Rock tournament; I've been top 10 for years and just never could get the kicker, this year was the year and it paid dividends. Regionally was first place in one of the series I fish, would like to do the same next year. My partner and I finished second @ a Super-Regional level and qualified for a 50 boat national tournament in another, I'm stoked about that one. My greatest joy, however, was to see my son pick up a casting reel and start casting like he was born with it, he's now 6, he also managed a 4lb Spot and a 3-8 brown fish, along with a 6-6 green fish this year; those surpass anything I could ever hope for. I'm not going to list my goals, it's a superstition thing and I don't want to seem pretentious. Let's just say I want only to do well, and fish with my son as many days as I possibly can. Quote
SAC2 Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 well it wasn't really a goal but i caught a bass open water later than i have ever before. we normally have ice by this time, but last week i took the boat out and landed a few smallies. as for 2012 i want to hone in my crankbait skills. also breaking the 7 lb mark would be nice to do again! good luck everyone! Big-O Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 2011 was Great! And two days in particular, I took one of our Wounded Veterans (Clay Carver) who was wounded in Iraq... On the first day, he caught his new PB and the following day, we recorded the best big fish day I've ever had with only two people in the boat. The link is a SLIDE SHOW of the 2nd day of 19 fish from 7lbs to the 12.30 and 3 others beating 10. From Dawn to evening when I had to tape my rod hand on the last two fingers due to BLISTERS, lol. The photo is Clays PB from the first day... All of the fish were caught on Rage Hawgs or Jig n Lobster For 2012, I hope to Fish again and be HAPPY... Super User Team9nine Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 My 2011 goals: Have fun My 2012 goals: Have fun I didn't start the year with any goals because any more, I just like getting out fishing as much as I can. Had enough of that goal stuff when I fished tourneys (25 years). Still, when the season was halfway through and it was obvious to me it was looking like a good year, I decided to shoot for catching 2,011 bass in 2011. Reached that goal on Dec. 3, and thanks to some unusually warm Indiana weather, have now exceeded it by a couple hundred...and still counting. Goals for 2012: Go fishing and enjoy -T9 Quote
Clay Carver Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 2011 Highlights #1 Went out with Big O and he put me on to not only my new PB but so many big fish that by the end of day two I couldn't even move without my arms cramping up. #2 My fishing show Purple Heart Bassin started airing. With doing this show I've been able to take several other wounded veterans out fishing and hear their heroic stories of not just surviving but overcoming their injuries. In 2012 #1 I hope as always to get back on the water with Big O and thump some big heads. #2 Watch my beautiful wife fullfill her dream and walk across the basic training graduation field on her way to becoming a combat medic. #3 Continue to film episodes of the show taking even more wounded troops to bigger and better locations. 1 Quote

Fontana Finesse Man Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 After taking off from fishing for about 8 years, everyday I got to fish in 2011 was wonderful! Got to spend a ton of days on the water with my son and daughter and wife. Caught some good fish and won a few pot tournaments, but mostly taught my son alot about fishing and tournament fishing. 2012: More of the same! And don't spend all my savings and retirement money on this dang fishing addiction! Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 28, 2011 Super User Posted December 28, 2011 2011 accomplisments: #1 Had fun. #2 Caught a new PB Largemouth #3 Finished in the money in 3 tournaments with 2 different partners and once by myself , and those that I or we didn't, were only one or two places out all but once. #4 Quit buying so much tackle, I know what I like to do, and what works for me, I would rather get better with what I have, than go broke throwing the tackle box at them. 2012 goals: #1 have fun #2 catch a new PB, lm or sm. #3 win a tournament or two, but keep my yearly multiple cashing streak on my home lake going, it'll be year 6 this year. #4 not fish as much alone, I hope to have my oldet daughter out more often this year, Quote

Bass Dude Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 2011 Accomplishments: Caught my PB 7.6lbs in a tournament, on a lure I made, and won a bunch of money off him/her! Caught my PB spot--- 3.5lbs. Finished 3 in points in my club. Not bad considering I've only been fishing these waters for 2 years. Qualified, through my club, to fish in the FLW TBF tourney. Gained enormous confidence in the drop shot. Fished harder than ever. Kept my head down and fished hard in each tournament until the last second. 2012 Goals: Consistency. Win the FLW TBF tourney. Remain safe and healthy. 1 Quote

bman310 Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 2011 was an excellent fishing year for me. I decided early in the year I was going to focus on throwing plastics during the year. I learned early on how I could go out and catch bass consistently (even as the weather and lake conditions changed) as well as catching quality ones. (I fish hi pressure city lakes too) Senkos, Baby Brush Hogs, and Yamamoto Kreatures became my go to baits. During the last weeks of the year, I added Rage Tail products and Roboworms to my list of go to's. My biggest gratifying moments during the year was getting my 5 1/2 year old son on a nice bass as well as getting him on trout throughout the year. My son now hooks trout on his own and reels em in, but the bass I had to set the hook and help him hold the rod. He started showing more interest in fishing towards the end of the year. (photo below of my son with the first bass he helped catch) Goals for next year: -Keep having fun at the lake -Teach my son more about fishing -Get my 3 year old daughter on some fish (she actually shows more interest than her brother) -Order a swimbait rod and catch my first swimbait bass -Get my first DD bass -Add a couple more rod & reel combos -Get my 2 kids out on a boat Wishing everyone here on BR the very best for 2012! -brian Quote
Dave T. Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 2011 Accomplishments... got out with my son a number of times and caught several 20" + smallies. 2012 Goals... get out MORE with my son and catch MORE 20" + smallies. Overall goal... get out and fish with my son. 1 Quote
