Is their any rule of thumb on how much skirt to put on a Jig?

Does this look like I put too much skirt on it?

I like a thick skirt many times. 55-60 strand count is my favortie except for footballs and finesse jigs. Then I opt for 40-45 count. Those jigs look good man. And yes, I always use a rattle on a flippin jig.

There's no rule of thumb, its your preference. I normally put 50 strands on mine, sometimes a few less on smaller finesse jigs. I personally don't use rattles and if I do, I insert a glass rattle into the trailer. I'm not crazy about the add on jig rattles. Those are nice looking baits you made.

That looks pretty good to me...As far as rattles, the only time I like to have rattles is when I am throwing deep deep water jigs or in low light conditions..IMO it just helps the fish track the jig a little better.

I have never noticed any difference with or without rattles.

Looks great to me, the thicker skirt adds some beef to it!

I'd fish your jig!

I'd put a rattle in it...just normally have them and why change it if it works haha

Looks good to me as well. I prefer jigs with a little beefier profile, and that one looks great.

Nice lookin jigs!! All about personal pref but I like a fuller skirt also.

That looks great to me. The skirt is full, which I prefer. I personally don't use rattles because in my opinion they are useless if you are fishing a jig slow enough. The only exception is on swimming jigs and I usually use those in clearer water, leaving the colored water duties to a spinnerbait or crankbait, so I don't like rattles on those either.

Looks great! Thicker skirts will give you a slower ROF than thinnier ones. I'm never really confident how a bass will react on any given day, so I'd rather be armed with a thicker skirt at first and thin out as I go.

As far as rattles: I'm not a big fan of them. You're more than likely are going to bump that jig into something which will be more than adequet from a noise perspective.

JMHO of course.

Looks good to me! That's one of my favorite color combos as well.

I like two styles of skirt:

-Thick, full skirt of a brand new jig

-Torn up, beaten, battle scarred skirt of a "money jig"

I ten to like the second style more.

I like using the rattles but I like the rattles that hang down off the jig. Not sure what they are called but you have two rattle chambers about 3 inches apart connected by a rubber strap. The strap just slides over the hook before the trailer goes on. No real explanation but I just seem to have had better luck with these.
