Crankenstein Crony Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I have a question for anyone out there who throws Strike King cranks baits. I bought several SK 5xd's this spring to add them to my arsenal of SK cranks. I had 2 or 3 of these baits start filling up with water after being used for a little while. 1 of them filled up with water on the 1st cast I ever made with it. After they filled with water, they would not track straight anymore. I looked the baits over to see if I could find any cracks or little hole in them and could find nothing wrong with the baits. I am interested to know if anyone else out there has had this same issue. I haven't had this happen to any of my other Strike King cranks and I have 5 or 6 boxes full of Series 1's, 3's 5's 6xd's and 1.5's and 2.5's. I was just kinda dumb founded by this little problem. I am very curious to know if anyone else has had this happen, and if you did, did you find a way to correct the leak and get the baits to track straight again. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted December 15, 2011 Super User Posted December 15, 2011 Probably the seams are bad. You can return them you know. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 16, 2011 Super User Posted December 16, 2011 I probably have 200+ SK cranks, not too many have been duds, but if/when they are no big deal, they are cheap, buy some more. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted December 16, 2011 Super User Posted December 16, 2011 Check the lips, I've seen some of them in-store where the paint wasn't even lined up right. If you can't return them I would try to put a small bead of superglue around the lip Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted December 16, 2011 Super User Posted December 16, 2011 I've got several hundred SK cranks, and it does happen from time to time. I know firsthand there was a run of them that have the exact problem you describe. Any that I've had were in the 6XD and you could see the cracks were visible from the outside. I contacted Strike King directly and had no issue with getting them replaced. Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 See that is part of my problem as well. I emailed SK and explained the problem I was having and I never got a response. I've never had an issue with any other SK cranks before and I have quite a few myself. Maybe I will try and contact SK again and see if anything happens. The place I buy them from only accepts returns if I have the original package and I pretty much throw those away as soon as I get them home. I change the hooks and they go right into my plano boxes. Crankenstein Crony Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 I contacted Strike King directly and had no issue with getting them replaced. Did you call Strike King or did you email them? I went the email route and didn't ever hear back. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Email or talk to Chris Brown...he will help you out. He replaced all my RES that swole up free of charge. Quote
Super User webertime Posted December 16, 2011 Super User Posted December 16, 2011 I had one do the same thing, we ended up hanging it up by the line tie and putting a papertowel under it and looked for drips. I found that the hole was at the rear hook mount. Just a tiny amount of epoxy and it was as good as new/the other non fillers. Just hang it and see where the leak is coming from and seal it. Quote
