Lately, I have been throwing a big spoon on ledges when the football jig and deep crank bite shuts down and it has been working well. I am running low on Lake Fork Lures Spoons, and was wondering wheter I should stick with them, or whether I should try the Joe Spaits Spoon or the Strike King Sexy Spoon. The main reasons I am thinking of swithcing spoons is because of the huge logo on the back of the Lake Fork spoons, and because of their terrible split rings. Do the Strike King Sexy Spoons still have issuses with the paint chipping?

Let me get this right, you have a lure that is working and you want to change simply because you need to by more?

Why?

Buy more of what you know works.  Add a couple of new ones to try, if you must.

I would get a few more Lake Fork Tackle spoons,

"just in case" you don't like the other brands, but

you ought to try a few different spoons to test them

out for yourself.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread but what kind of setup are you using for these spoons.  I've been experimenting with spoons on ledges this year with limited success.  I have been using a 7' MH/F Crucial with a Curado 200D and 12# flouro.  The rod is rated up to 1oz, do I need something stronger or something with a moderate fast action because of the treble hook?

I want to change spoons because of the gigantic logo on the spoon, and because the spoon has terrible split rings on it.  Also, the store near me does not have Lake Fork Tackle spoons, and I don't need 50 dollars worth of stuff from Tackle Warehouse, I have done that far too many times this month.

KevO, I am using a seven foot six inch heavy fast Daiwa Zillion rod with a 7.3:1 gear ratio Daiwa Zillion reel spooled with 15 to 20 pound test monofilament.

Nice, you're changing the original criteria of the question to fit your desire.  Get something new, that's what you want to hear, right?

As for the split rings, they're easy to replace, and for the "logo," well perhaps that is what the fish were attracted to.  ;D

I just didn't include all of the information about why I wanted to try different spoons because I thought that people who have tried the Lake Fork spoon and some of the other spoons on the market would help me compare them and tell me which ones they like better.  Have you tried the Lake Fork spoons?

I like to change it up just because I get bored. Even when I'm out on the lake catching fish. I'll take off a lure that is catching fishing to try out something new. It's nice to try out a new lure/technique when you know the fish are there and biting.

I use a lot of spoons and I don't care for logos on spoons myself but if they were in anyway a deterrent in catching fish I doubt the mfg would sell them that that.  Try using Brasso or even toothpaste to remove the logo( I shine my spoons with Brasso quite often).  Many spoons do not even come with split rings, it's a non issue really, just take them off and replace with a better one or leave off completely. Others may do it differently but I use a swivel then leader to the spoon with a loop knot.

Spoons are a no brainer, cast and reel, spinning or b/c, makes little difference, just vary your retrieval speed from time to time.

If you are fishing for northern or muskie a little piece of piano wire using a Haywire twist is a good idea.
