guitarkid Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Looking to put flourocarbon on one of my rigs, just looking for an affordable Flouro that everyone recomends. -gk Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 14, 2011 Super User Posted December 14, 2011 InvisX for lighter line, Trilene 100% or Shooter for heavier. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 14, 2011 Super User Posted December 14, 2011 The InvizX on spinning tackle, AbrazX on baitcasting gear Quote
Craiger12 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I don't have a ton of experience with different types of flouro, but it seems like you really get what you pay for in this case. Personally, I use and recommend Toray Superhard Upgrade for baitcasters. It is very stiff (which gives it excellent sensitivity and abrasion resistance) so I imagine it wouldn't be manageable on spinning gear. Some of the common recommendations for affordable flouro I have seen are BPS, Trilene 100%, and Invisix. Quote
NCLifetimer Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Trilene 100% has been working well for me recently. Quote
A-Rob Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 maybe vicious? I am just really careful tying knots with the cheaper flouro. I haven't had any break offs with a san diego jam But I have broken palomar, uni, and half hitch haha jk Quote
Packard Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I prefer Sunline FC Sniper or Super Fluorocarbon. Seaguar InvisX is a lot easier to find though and haven't had any problems with it except the occasional backlash is difficult to pick out. Quote
G_money Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 InvisX for lighter line, Trilene 100% or Shooter for heavier. I agree with the Seaguar, but when I switched to Abrazx I found it to be much more abrasion resistant but almost as supple for spinning gear. Shooter is great as is Toray Superhard upgrade (a little better IMO), Also Sunline Sniper FC is great, but gets harry on spinning tackle if you go over 10lb test. Quote
guitarkid Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 I have kind of narrowed my choices down, Trilene 100%, or Sunline Super FC Sniper. -gk Quote
scrutch Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 I've used invisX on my bc gear exclusively and really liked it for it's sensitivity and suppleness. I think you need to replace it after no more than two years though. I used KVD line conditioner on it a few times and I started having knot strength problems. Knot strength went to zero. It either has a short shelf life or it doesn't get along very well with the KVD line conditioner. Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 If you are looking for an inexpensive Fluoro line go with Vicious. Thats what I use on just about all my gear. You can get 250 yards of Vicious for under $10 most of the time. For a couple bucks more you can get the Vicious Pro Elite Fluoro and that stuff is even better. I love it. Most of my buddies also use it and they like it. Best bang for the buck!! The Seaguar line will run around $17-$30 for 200 yards, Berkley 100% will run $17-$25 for a 200 yard spool, Sunline will run you anywhere from $16-$35 for less than 200 yards. If you have a tight budget go Vicious! Quote
BasskingKeith Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I mainly use fluorocarbon. All these guys above my post are recommending great lines, especially Vicious- for the price. In my opinion, Berkley 100% fluorocarbon is the best, but I actually use Berkley Vanish the most. I think your knot is going to be important while truly deciphering which line is the best. Very, very rarely do I get broke off on the hook set anymore, mostly due to my change of knot. I always used a Palomar, and never knew that it's just not too compatible with Fluoro. Thanks to an article in Bassmaster magazine where Gary Klein was having the same problem, someone recommended the Eugene Bend to him. He's "been using it ever since", and so have I. Hopefully you found this info valuable... Quote
msolorio Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 vicious pro elite fluoro without question. ive used seaguar, sunline, trilene 100% n others n just found that vicious pro elite performs better for me. never had one issue in any of the lb tests. i love sunline but its too expensive for my budget n hard to find around here, seaguar in my opinion is over rated. its a great fluoro dont get me wrong but i just dont think its as good as everyone makes it out to be. trilene 100%, eh didnt like it at all. pro elite is tough, sensitive, and has great straight and knot strength as well as an amazing price for the quality fluoro it is. all this bein said, its up to u, great suggestions on here but in the end its personal preference. Scorcher214 Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Has anyone tried Sufix's Invisiline Castable Flurocarbon? Siege and elite are the best monofilaments I have ever used and I would think that there other lines would be pretty good as well. Quote
NBR Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 i've never had any problem with break offs with a Palomar knot but then our north east fish are not as heavy as those encountered by our southern friends. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 27, 2011 Super User Posted December 27, 2011 Our bass may not be as big, but I've caught trout up to 22 lbs. on fluoro as light as 4# size, and a Palomar works fine. It ain't the knot, it's the tyer. Quote
BasskingKeith Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 haha I guess I am a samurai swordsman when it comes to setting the hook... Quote
