Hey guys I ran across a deal for a bunch of brand new in box Dt-6 in about 4 different colors. I got 17 cranks for $20. I plan on using these around rip rap. Question is what is the best size hooks for these cranks. Factory hooks seem kind of small. Thanks

DT cranks aren't the most durable. Not sure I would rely on them, if I were banging into rip rap

ok good to know. yeah im used to bomber and strike king cranks. How do you guys use the dt-6 cranks?

You'll break the bills off them before the hooks need replacing. The DT10, 16, and 20 are pretty durable, but I had terrible luck with DT06 breaking. I would use them in open water, and be careful snapping them off weeds. If they ricochet into any hard cover, you might snap the bill. Definitely do not smack them at the water to clear weeds - that's a sure fire way to break them.

Just use them smart - open water, light drag about 3# resistance, and whack them. They get bit.

I'd just leave the hooks and fish them 'till they die. A great Rapala for banging riprap up here is the Crankin' Rap CRR5 squarebill. I've been scoring them out of bargain bins cheap this fall. $20 is an awesome deal on 17 DT6 cranks even if they are not as durable as other baits.

Like others said just keep them away from rocks and don't smack them on the water to clean the hooks. They're a great bait in open water or on softer bottoms like sand or clay. If you don't want to mess with replacing them you could sell 17 Dt 6's for way more than what you paid for them if they're in good shape.

Have fun fishing them.

I would suggest changing the front hook with a red treble hook of the same size if you wish to change anything about the baits.

As said above, throw them and enjoy them.

Throw them in shallow water so they stir up the bottom.

Then, as you are fishing them, think about the gumbo you will be making for the LSU-Bamasux game on January 9th.

I will be at the game so look for me on TV when they show the Superdome.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I have a tackle tray full of DT06's and have yet to break the bill on a single one. I bang them off of rock, wood, cinderblocks, bricks, everything, and not once have I broken the bill on one. I have wore the bills down on a few to where the front edge of the lip is fairly close to the eylet, but they havent broken. Not sure if ya'll got a bad batch or what, but they have outlasted most of the bandits, bombers, and strike kings that I used. More importantly, they run true out of the box. For a little over a buck a piece, you basically stole them. An EXCELLENT crankbait that has proven itself to catch fish and will be around for a while.

As a rule of thumb, I dont smack my baits on the water to get weeds off period. Its a bad habit and could potentially scare fish in the area so I don't do it.

As Sam stated above, cast them to shallow areas (4-5 feet) with sandy bottoms and let them stir up the bottom. I usually reel in 3-4 turns of the handle on a 7.1, then pause for a split second and start again when running it across sandy bottoms. This has produced well for me. If you find rocky bottom, do the same but retrieve the with a slower turn of the handle to where you feel the lure just barely nicking off the rocky bottom. I generally dont like the crank to dig too hard into the rock, just contacting it enough to cause a deflection of the lures path.

Again, its a fantastic lure that you purchased dirt cheap. Dont hesitate to throw them anywhere, if you lose or break one it only cost you a hair over a dollar. Also, if you are fishing where the fish are, your gonna loose some lures so remember that its just part of the game. Best of Luck

You definitly didnt waste your money, that might be the deal of the century in fact. I have NEVER had an issue with breaking dt's due to the fact that I a) don't slap them on the water to get weeds off B) I dont fish them very often in rocks.

Since the dt series has come out, it has been one of my top producing cranks I have ever used - throw the bait with confidence and you should be just fine.

Those DT-6 cranks are good cranks. I used to use them all the time! They flat out catch em! You got a great deal if you got 17 of them for $20. Just don't smack em on the water to get weeds off them because you will rip the bill right off. I would put #6 Gamakatsu EWG's on them. Those hooks are awesome! I replace all my stock hooks with these EWG's.

wasted 20 bux??? Wow! the normal price at most places on those are around 8.99-11.99. 150.00 or more dollars in cranks for 20 bux.
