msolorio Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 hey guys, just wonderin if anyone has ever had an issue with this knot slippin out? i have it tied on my flippin n pitchin rod(50# braid to 20# fluoro leader) seems to be very strong but havent had a chance to try it out yet. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted December 12, 2011 Super User Posted December 12, 2011 If you tie it properly it'll almost never fail. Both of them are great knots. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 12, 2011 Super User Posted December 12, 2011 No issues with either knot, but I'm still more comfortable with the Alberto Knot. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 The greatest chance of slipping is while tying. If you lose your grip on a tag end you can slip the knot before it is cinched. Once tied correctly it is a strong low profile knot. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 12, 2011 Super User Posted December 12, 2011 Tie it like this, and you won't have any issues. Quote
I.rar Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I've tried both but prefer the Albright. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 12, 2011 Super User Posted December 12, 2011 I use the albright. To avoid slippage MAKE SURE you cinch it down good especially when using flouro. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 13, 2011 Super User Posted December 13, 2011 Hey JFrancho, Great video! Quote
Fat-G Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I prefer to not use a leader when possible, as it is just another weak link that may fail, but when I do use a leader, it is always the Albright Special. Great knot! Quote
Brandon K. Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Never had a problem with either one slipping. Just remember to wet the knot before cinching down. Got in a rush a few times during tournaments and broke fish off. Quote
A-Rob Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I break off all leaders when slamming the hook with my heavy action flipping stick so I don't use leaders anymore...BUT I use those knots a lot for smallmouth fishing and found that if you manipulate the number of wraps you will find that you will get better or worse performance. Try different wraps and see what holds best when you test it in your garage. I found more wraps the better with the braid. I would do 12-14. Maybe 10 going up and 4 back down. Anyways see what works! johnD. Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 uni to uni.. I use it for all of my braid to leader connections..4 turns with your leader 10-11 turns with the braid..more than strong enough for LMB. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 15, 2011 Super User Posted December 15, 2011 I've yet to have a problem with the alberto, it's a seldom used knot for me as I use it to target only one species. I did use it about a month ago and left the leader tied on and was catching some pretty hard fighting fish, the knot came thru with flying colors. I don't think a leader is a weak spot, unless it's a light one. If I were to fish with 20# braid and a 15# leader, my effective line strength would be 15#. As a rule I double my line test for leaders are 10#braid/20#leader for freshwater and 15/30 &20/40 for salt, this has worked well for me. The overwhelming amount of my fishing is throwing moving baits, gonna get line wrapped around hooks for sure, a mono leader is much easier to unravel than braid, for that reason alone leaders make sense to me...........I never fish without one. 21farms Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 the knot in that youtube video is labeled as an albright knot but it looks like an alberto knot to me because midway through the loops, he reverses the direction of the loops...in an albright, the loops only go in one direction. am i wrong here? anyway, i used to use the uni-to-uni but had too many failures. after getting the alberto down pat, i've not had a single lost fish or lure because of the connection knot. Super User J Francho Posted December 15, 2011 Super User Posted December 15, 2011 It's actually called a modified Albright, but yeah, it's the same as a Crazy Alberto's knot: http://www.stripersonline.com/a/albertos-knot Whomever posted the youtube video titled it incorrectly. Quote
