Polarkraft05 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I have been reading on the forum a lot in the past few weeks, and am finally deciding i cant find exactly what i want to know from searching. I will be fishing for largemouth, in small to large lakes, not many rocky points, lots of trees. I have decided to have a 4 rod setup 1 med heavy bait caster quantum bass pro tourny 1 med bait caster older quantum on a st croix 1 med spinning bps qualifier and possibly 1 med heavy spinning, soon to buy probably a sahara reason for the two spinning rods is i am not used to a bait caster yet my questions are, what line should i put on these rigs? my favorite fishing by far is carolina rig, texas rig, and other soft bait presentations, followed by spinner bait, jig, and some crankbaits i know a lot of this is opinion, but i feel like there is a pretty common opinion on this forum, and it will greatly help me if i have an idea of where to start. I have had problems in the past with mono and having too much memory (i spooled it correctly and soaked it in water, but that only helped for a short time) I usually go with stren, or trilene, Maybe i need to go with a better brand? if i do switch to braid i do not want to have to tie a leader on, just seems like a lot of work to me to tie it on, then when it gets short from either breaking, or tieing new lures on, ill just have to tie another one on. If it absolutely must be done ill do it, but i prefer to keep things simple. sorry for such a general question, but it seems no matter how much searching i do i cant find exactly what i am looking for. Bass_Fanatic Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Try Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft on your spinning reels and Sunline Shooter floro for one baitcaster and either braid of mono for your other. I have went to 75% floro on all my rigs. I use braid strictly for punching grass and frogs and I use mono strictly for topwater and crankbaits. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted December 7, 2011 Super User Posted December 7, 2011 Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 Baitcasting gear: Hybrid #12 Quote
Red Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I use the Sunline FC Sniper in 20# on all my rigs except for one that I use for cranks and topwaters, for it I use 10# P-Line CXX. Trilene XL aways worked well for me on spinning gear. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted December 7, 2011 Super User Posted December 7, 2011 Go with braid since you aren't fishing rocks. jmo Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted December 7, 2011 Super User Posted December 7, 2011 You could use braid on all reels, I do. I have one spinning reel with Nanofil and its very nice line management wise. Go with a higher test like 8# on your MED reel cause 8# is just that no more unlike with braid. Quote
Polarkraft05 Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 Thanks for the replies, I think ill go with yo zuri ultra soft on the spinning reels in either 6 or 8# ill leave mono on 1 baitcaster as both are already spooled with it, and they have little to no use so ill use it again this year. for the other baitcaster ill either go braid or sunline sniper. Polarkraft05 Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Im starting to second guess my decision, after reading a few basic articles on line, i am concurring that fluro carbon tends to have a lot more memory than mono, and if i am already having trouble with my mono having memory, why would i go with something that makes it worse? im considering going all braid, but i really dont like the idea of tieing a leader on Is there a high quality mono that has no issues with memory? it seems i have tried stren, and several trilenes, but have never had any that didnt have memory to it. Polarkraft05 Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Odd, i got an email stating that someone (deep) posted on this thread, but i dont see his post on here. he asked what kind of mono i am using as i shouldnt be having problems with it having memory. the line is 12 pound trilene big game on all of my poles a larger cardinal spinning reel a bps qualifier spinning reel two baitcasters both old quantum. have memory problems on all of them for the spinning reels im thinking the line is just too heavy (even though the cardinal says it can hold 120 yards of 12 pound test) but even too heavy for the baitcaster? Hello there, this is him. I'm not sure why I don't see my post either, lol. Must have hit delete or something For your baitcaster, I don't think it's too heavy at all. As for the spinning reel, I'm not familiar with it, so I can't comment. But most freshwater reels (shimano 2500 size, don't know what abu size that is), 8 lb test max is pretty okay I'd say. What do you mean when you say the line develops memory? Especially when you're talking about the baitcaster? Quote
Polarkraft05 Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 when i say memory, im refering to the line having coils in it when i let line out. i would take a picture but i have no clue where the cord is for my camera. when i flip the bail on the spinning reel, the line sometimes "pops" off in coils, if it doesnt pop off, it will still have tight (size of the reels spool) coils maybe this isnt "memory" maybe im using the wrong term, but either way it cant be normal. as for the bait caster, it tends to have the same coils in the line when i let line out. I have spooled my crappie rods with vicious panfish, and really loved it, the line came straight off of it, and never had a problem with the coils. im convinced for the spinning reels the line is just too big, but what about the bait caster? Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 8, 2011 Super User Posted December 8, 2011 Everything is personal choice. For me it's spinning only with braid and I would use a swivel, leader and and a duolock. I do not change my leaders too often, and I fish everyday. I can change lures quick and I do not worry my leader getting too short. Don't over think it. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 You are right, florocarbon does have some memory, but it can be handled with KVD Line and Lure. Just spray it on when spooling and once every trip and it will take care of most memory problems. Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft has almost no memory and low stretch compared to mono. As for mono, Suffix Seige stretches a pretty good bit, but it has almost no memory. Quote
msolorio Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 i use all vicious line for all my fishing, braid, mono, fluoro. theyre mono is "copolymer" line n honestly is the limpest mono i have ever used not to mention it has d**n near zero memory. i have that in 12lb on one of my baitcasters as well as a spinning outfit n have not had one issue at all with it. i can say the exact same thing for vicious braid and pro elite fluoro. most the time im usin 50lb braid with a 5'-6' fluoro leader but like i said i have reel, spinning n baitcasters with all fluoro or all mono. Super User dodgeguy Posted December 12, 2011 Super User Posted December 12, 2011 sufix 832 braid in 10 lb for your spinning and 50 lb on bautcasters will solve all line problems. Quote
