Just wondering what everyone thinks about the possibility of the alabama rig being effective during the winter.

It works in fifty degree water I don't know why it would work in forty that's as colds as it gets in Alabama

ok, thanks. also if anyone has any input on how is the best way to fish it or where it seems to excel the most, that would be great.

Any channel or creek ledge with bait on them see how fast your rig sinks by pulling out the as much line as your rod is long then drop your rod tip to the water and start counting when your line gets tight the second you counted divided by amount of line equals fall rate. Now what ever depth the bait on ledge is cast and count. A little deeper than the bait fish. Wala your an expert

A recent report, made locally:

Well went out sunday with same two guys again and we were ready to do battle. We were armed with a new homemade rig

THE VALLE RIG better known as the Alabama rig, Which I machined two blocks of aluminum and made my own mold for it. So yesterday was the test to see if it would work. First cast caught a three pounder and then the flood gates opened from there. It was the most thrilling day Myself, Chris O'brien (ranger19) and Jermey Douglas (doogie) ever had. We boated 75 fish at 11:58and from there it just got better. Total on the day we boated 186 smallies everyone beautiful and fat. Also 95% of them came on the VALLE RIG. The rig held up very well, I probably caught about 65 fish with 4 eyes "which they came home" and chris caught 1 two for a total of 5. We seen CUS and Mr. Haney out there doin the jerk. I also caught my fist double on the rig and Doogie caught a double also. Mr.O'brien had a double on but lost one of the fish bringing them to boat " tough break better luck next time". All in all it was a awesome day had a great time. Lake is still off the hook!

It's going to about location, though. I was on that same body of water the day before, and while we caught, not nearly those numbers.
