Super User CWB Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 If other, please list. Also, a short explanation of hook style and size used and preferred color would be appreciated. I prefer Rage Toads in Green Pumpkin/Pearl on a 4/0-5/0 1/16 oz weighted Gammy superline hook as all toads have a habit of coming in upside down. Quote
Koop Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Thats a tough one... was hard between rage toad and zoom horny toad for me. But had to go with the horny toad. I prefer black with blue legs or solid white. (The chartreuse used to be my go to but it is now out of production, JJ's Magic can be used on white ones and works pretty well.) I use an Owner 5/O Twistlock hook. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 My favorite by far, and the only toad I use, Is the Rage Toad, and just as CWB said, Green/white on a 1/16 5/0 superline Gammy. Perfect! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 Out of those, the Ribbit is my favorite, but lately my favorite bait to use like this is a Space Monkey. Quote
rubba bubba Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Mine currently is the Zoom Horny Toad with a 4/0 or 5/0 hook, weightless. When these run out, I'll be switching to ***'s toad for a while.... Green pumpkin and watermelon red. Quote

Steven Ladner Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 The Rage Toad, 5/0 hook, burned across the top. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 None of those can produce as much noise and as many strikes as the Rage Toad IMO!!!! Quote
Super User RoLo Posted August 9, 2009 Super User Posted August 9, 2009 Stanley Ribbit Floater The Gambler Cane Toad being a close-second. At the speed I usually fish topwater toads, the Horny Toad is a subsurface lure. Roger Quote
Big-O Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 5/0 EWG Gamakatsu rigged as shown will run right side up 90% of the time and if it lands on its back on cast just pause on the retrieve and it will right itself. Make sure to center the hook and avoid bowing the back up when skin hooking is the key to making them run properly I like the Owner 6/0 Twistlock but a bit more expensive of course. I will use keel weighted hooks on Toads and Shad if the waves are bad as this helps all soft plastic to ride the waves and not skip out Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Crowcommander Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 My favorite is the Gambler Cane Toad in Bull Frog or Florida 50 with the Zoom Horny Toad,a distant 2nd. I modify a 5/0 Horny toad or stanely hook by wrapping soldering wire around the shank to keep it upright and always use a glass bead (from Hobby Lobby and BTW you'll make points with the wifey by shopping there). Bass Junkie Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I have tried buzzfrogs, ribbits, sizmics, hardnose, and mad tommy toads, and outta all of 'em, I LOVE the ribbit. The only one that comes close is the mad tommy. As for riggin', I use the ribbit screw-lock hook with a 1/0 trailer hook slid on the big hooks shank. I am gonna try ragetails tommorow, so I might have to change my opinion. Quote

Tug-Tug-Pause....WHACK!!!!! ZOOM Horny Toad all the way!!!! Bullfrog and Watermelon Red Owner Twistlock 5/0 and Gamakatsu 5/0 Quote
