(='_'=) Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 i have a question regarding reels, specially the H2O Mettle http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_133325_-1?Ntt=Mettle&Ntk=All how do you adjust the centrifugal brake pin system?? the 2 quantums i have (Code and KVD from Bass Pro) have a knob on the left side of the reel. the Code has only 4 positions, the KVD has 10... but the H2O reel, which has a lot of good reviews in several pages, has a 6 pin centrifugal brake system.... how does that works?? i read something about having to remove the side plate to adjust it... seems slow and not practical to me... is it easy?? or how do you do it?? i have never had any other baitcasters in my hands, other than those 2 i own and 2 cheap ones from Shakespeare..... BradH Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Remove the sideplate. You should be able to see the 6 pins. Snap them "in" or "out" to turn them on or off. You can have 2, 3, 4 or 6 pins in the braking position as long as they are spaced evenly around the spool. There should be a manual with the reel, check there. I actually like centrifugal brakes where I have to remove the cover to adjust them, Curado, Revo S. I spend more time fishing and less time playing with the reel. Quote
(='_'=) Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 thanx!! i dont have the reel with me yet, im still deciding on which one to get for my new rod, but that one has a lot of good reviews and is not too expensive, im leaning strongly towards it, the only issue was the brake system, but maybe its not as hard as i thought... Super User tomustang Posted December 6, 2011 Super User Posted December 6, 2011 . seems slow and not practical to me... . After you get use to the brake system, you just adjust the spool tension with the lures Quote
catchnm Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Six pin centrifugal brakes are "set it and forget it" brakes to me. Just use the tension knob adjuster after that. I do not own any magnetic braking system BC reels anymore since I discovered the six pin centrifugals. On the H20 and most of my other reels I have them set to a "Y' pattern 3 on and 3 off........or every other one turned on. Like has been said already, push....gently....out for on and in for off. You'll feel a slight click and then you'll know you have them set. There are reels with this system that have more than six pins but the same general rule applies.....every other one on. As you become a more confident baitcaster user you can drop down to just two brakes on but I don't recommend it at first. I haven't gotten my hands on one of the newer Revos.....not a big fan of Revos....but their system is quite different. Pflueger reels with this system are a bit different also and the Bass Pro reels too. Quote
Super User deep Posted December 6, 2011 Super User Posted December 6, 2011 I haven't gotten my hands on one of the newer Revos.....not a big fan of Revos....but their system is quite different. I got a Revo Toro Winch with the 6 pin centrifugal braking. It's quite similar to the Shimano braking, at least from the outside, and works well. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 The Revo system for centrifugal brakes is more encased and the pins are supported by springs. They basically work and are accessed the same way. Quote
(='_'=) Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 thanx!! i just tried to order me an H2O Mettle, Academy wont take my Mexican card, but maybe i will get it when i go to the store in a couple of weeks. i have read good reviews on it, and even though i would like it to have a brake system similar to the ones i already know, i think i wont have a problem with this reel...
