Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 5, 2011 Super User Posted December 5, 2011 So while at Bass Pro the other week I accidently picked up a bag of Zoom Super Hawgs instead of Brush Hogs. Well, yesterday I was a kids birthday party with my Fiances family, when I spotted the fact that we were on a canal at the park we were at. Lucky for me I keep a Abu Garcia Cardinal spinner in the trunk of my car. By the way her uncle and her Grandfather both avid anglers, and were not prepared, haha. So I decided to start throwing in after about an hour of kids screaming driving me to fish. Started off using my usual Brush Hogs in watermelon seed, and no luck for about 10 minutes. I could see them in there, they just wouldnt bite. I said to myself, why not try these Super Hawgs out just for the hell of it. Holy crap! These fish went nuts on these things. The way I fished them was using 10lb mono, size 4 hooks, no weight, just toss them and reel them slow while jerking them a little bit. I caught 6 bass in about 30 minutes. They were all around 2.5 lbs, but it was good fishing for the canal it was. Since I normally use a baitcaster with 65lb spiderwire, it was kind of fun to play around with a light tackle setup on these fish. If you get a chance, or you have used them before, they work pretty good. Cant wait to try them in the Everglades. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I use them all the time! They are a good alternative to sweet beavers when the bass want a more subtle action. Quote
river-rat Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I just started using them this past spring and had really good success using them for punching mats. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 6, 2011 Author Super User Posted December 6, 2011 Went back to canal again today to see if it was a fluke on Saturday. What do ya know, 2 1/2 hours and 13 Bass later. Super Hogs!!!! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 6, 2011 Global Moderator Posted December 6, 2011 They are a good bait and the bass really seem to eat them up. They are soft though and when I'm pitching them in heavy cover I seem to only average about a fish per bait with them. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 10, 2011 Author Super User Posted December 10, 2011 Caught 16 bass yesterday morning in about 45 minutes in a little canal on them. Holy crap that is the most ive ever caught in such a short period of time. Quote
CSimon2 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Great job! I am going to have to check them out. Quote
A-Rob Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011
They look great to me, but too expensive up in Canada...$7 a pack at our bass pro

.....eh
Sorry my fault dude I confused the Hawgs! The Z Hawg that just came out is expensive here The Super Hawg I use a lot flipping and pitching on a straight shank hook 65# braid and a heavy stick. I have caught some great ones on it, I like how it holds the hook better than a beaver imo Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 12, 2011 Author Super User Posted December 12, 2011 Yeah, there 4.19 a pack here in FL. Thats pretty expensive for us too. I try to make them last as long as I can. Quote
msolorio Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 got em in black/saphire blue..... wowsers! love em! theyre about 4.19 here in ca as well but worth the money if they produce. Quote
TrippyJai Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I've never tried the Super Hawgs, what colour did you use? Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 12, 2011 Author Super User Posted December 12, 2011 The best color for down here in S FLA is watermelonseed colors, junebug. The 16 I caught were all on a watermelon seed. Quote
A-Rob Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Junebug always works for me up north in the grass as well Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 16, 2011 Super User Posted December 16, 2011 Yet another one of my favs on a c-rig if they want a more subtle action. Quote

TheMightyQuinn Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 This bait does not produce fish. Trust me. Don't waste you money on them. (especially the green pumpkin) Those of you who are ruining my secret lure can stop any time now. I have enough trouble finding these as it is. (All said with a slight touch of sarcasm. These baits are amazing...I mean, they stink) Quote
TheMightyQuinn Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Oh and the smallies hate them too. Especially the green pumpkin hawgs. And so do the toothy critters. And catfish. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 22, 2011 Author Super User Posted December 22, 2011 Nice! Get'em! Quote
