Super User 00 mod Posted December 5, 2011 Author Super User Posted December 5, 2011 Thanks for the compliments, AND constructive criticism! I do trim the skirts like that because I ALWAYS use a trailer. Is there added benifits to a longer skirt? Am I doing something wrong? The way I trim them is like a barber would your hair...run my fingers down to the end of the hook and then cut under my fingers. the under skirt is trimmed close to the bend in the hook to allow it to flair out through the upper skirt some! JIGFISHERMAN. Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 All depends on Profile IMO. If the short ones work for you, so be it. I normally trim them a little bit longer. Then, there is the Mop jig. Let the fish tell you what they want. FWIW, I like my skirts a little longer so they get less detail of the trailer. I want them to see the "claws", maybe the head, and that's it. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted December 5, 2011 Author Super User Posted December 5, 2011 Mostly just for me and close personal friends. But I will keep that in mind for tonight. Lol Jeff Quote
mr.mallard Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 i like to trim them shorter except for about 3 or four strands. For Example: If i were using a black and blue jig i would trim all except one group of 3-4 blue and only blue strands. I like the strands all next to each other so they leave like a streak. On a different note. Look into tying so.me type of flash or fish hair or tinsel into your swim jigs or even better. if youre tying a mostly white swim jig(like you were fishing this summer). In the center of the jig before you surround it with skirt material. try a silver flash core thats about 2 inches longer than your skirt. leaving a tail flash effect. Just a thought. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 8, 2011 Global Moderator Posted December 8, 2011 That top bait looks a lot like the same color as one of the jigs I tie. Something about it is magic around here. I've got 300 heads poured, painted, and baked, now it's time to start the fun part Definitaly helps pass the winter months a little faster. Quote
