Really A Difference In Spinnerbaits?

I was watching one of Bill Dance's fishing shows the other day and he was using the Booyah Flex spinnerbait (I think that was the name of it). Well he said that the wire frame is flexible. Meaning, if you twist it and bend it this way and that, it springs back in to its normal shape, which leaves a lot of fine tuning out of the equation.

Then I got to thinking, do spinnerbaits really differ from brand to brand? I'm not big on spinnerbaits YET, but I kind of find it hard to believe they can really differ from one brand to the next.

Can anyone fill me head with some info on how my thinking is incorrect?

They do differ from brand to brand,some are cheaply made and will bend out of tune quickly, and have cheaper skirts, hooks etc, making them last much less time than the better made ones. Dr Spinnerbait makes a flexible wire spinnerbait, I have 2 of them, they are the real deal, work great, quality components, and always retain their shape. I would recommend War Eagles, and I like the BPS as well, but everyone has their own preference.

There are gigantic differences in spinnerbaits. From wire gauge to head design to the way the skirt rides in the water. Northstar makes the best bait for my money, bar none. The head and profile are clean and the skirts are excellent. The colors are dead on, as well. The wire diameters will let the blades vibrate without deforming the frame every time you get bit. They're easy to tune because of the head design, as well.

The smiley face was meant to say I was kidding in that I'm not taking shots at Bill Dance. He's a good old guy.

But I have no use for spinner baits....At least around here.

Spinnerbaits do differ by manufacture, they range from cheap materials to medium grade to high end materials. The higher end spinnerbaits will last longer are easier to tune and track much truer.

Not all spinnerbaits are created equal. In most cases you get what you pay for.

Higher end baits will have a tempered wire, tapered wire or even titainium wire among other materials. Heads will be high quality cast, quality finished and will less prone to chipping. The Hook

Swivel and Blade(s) will be top quality and the blades will stay shiney longer. Skirts are of course what most anglers focus on first. I have a few Booyah Virbra Flex baits and they the best model,

in my opinion in their line up. The main feature to me is the hole in the bladde is off

set and this creates a unique vibration. Spinnerbaits are the way to go, pond or no pond

Terminator has the titanium wire that also snaps right back into place. They are really good spinnerbaits but suck at 8 dollars a pop.

Ive used Sectet Weapon Lures spinnerbaits for a few years now and they are very nice. They rated a 9.0 on tackletour. No swivel to go bad.

hm, thank you everyone for the inputs!!

I have noticed that with any lure that you come across, some hooks are sharper and better quality than others. Sounds like the same principle here when it comes to material, frame, shape.

If I were to go out and buy a spinnerbait to try out, Sounds like I have a few to choose from. I am familiar with the Booyah brand spinnerbait. I see those at BPS a lot. I don't see the Vibra Flex one though. I may have to go else where for that one.

thanks Sam, I have owned one maybe 2 spinnerbaits in the past couple years and they both have trailer hooks. I don't have any success with spinners at all.

If your area is anything like this area, the fish are so conditioned to a white spinnerbait it's not even funny.

That's probably the issue. Not the construction of the baits your using.

Very seasonal? I catch spinnerbait fish, with regularity and consistency, from ice out to ice up. If that's what you mean by seasonal...yeah. The reason it's worth it to buy better baits is because the components will last, the hooks are better, and the baits will last longer in general, not to mention I'll catch more fish on what I buy than I would on a $.99 bait.

Down here in the Glades they do us no good except Chain Pickerel eat at them. Its mostly lizards, paddle tails, and jigs. But I can kill'em for a buck, haha.

Depends on pressure and conditioning. It used to be impossible to NOT catch fish all year long on the right color spinnerbait up here.

I don't even bother to fish them anymore.
