Navionics

Recently purchased a 4th generation 8 gb Ipod Itouch and I'm looking to download the Navionics App on it. Has anyone else downloaded the Navionics app to their Itouch? How much memory does it take up? Is it worth downloading?

I've been looking at it for a while too. The reviews don't look to good. If they update it, it sounds like its pretty much useless. Hope someone on here used it.

The application might need 3g or constant wifi to work properly too. I dont know if they have made it possible to get 3g on the ipod touch yet but it not be so helpful to you on the water without that functionality.

I've got Navionics Lakes South on my iPhone 4. It cost $10 when I downloaded it last year and it takes up about 680MB. As far as usage goes, I haven't used it all that much, especially while on the water fishing. I have gone over the topo maps looking for structure to fish when I prepare the night before, though. It's got a pretty slick interface and it allows you to zoom in to see a lot more detail than I expected to see, down to 1 foot contour lines. On the down side, some smaller local lakes that I like to fish are not mapped.

I have it on my iPad, I like it but it seems to lock up on me quite a bit. I really used it a lot a few months ago, but it just got aggravating to me.

I think it is a bargain for the $10 I paid for it last year. The same info you get on the Chip that is about $100 but, you only pay $10. The only downfall is how good your wi fi or phone connection is to your wireless device. If you don't have good phone service where you are using it, it will be slow. I have an iphone 3g. The lake where I use it, does not have good wireless data signal so, it works but is fairly slow. It did save my arse in the fog one day though. That was worth 10 bucks right there. I think it is a hell of a bargain. I will also use it to check my gps speed when going donw the highway, just to see how accurate my spedometer is. I will also use it in my office, to check out maps of lakes that I may be going to the coming weekend. I'm sure I probably don't use 5% of its capabilities but, again, for $10 bucks I thought it was a steel.

I loaded it to my Acer Tablet last night. It has more detail and more waters than I expected for such a low price. I've been using Navionics software for 6 years and am pleased with that product. I probably won't use it on the water, I already have three sonar units with their regional software and some extra region cards. It makes a good teaching tool though.

Additional note, I haven't had or seen any mobile devise that had a very sunlight readeable display to even use that for serious navigation.

Also what I downoaded was the Marine and Lakes for USA and Canada for Android devices. There were no "regions". It has HD surveyed waters also.

The chip for about a hundred bucks can be downloaded and activated on two computers. Doesn't matter where or who, if they have the registration code for activation. That makes the price fifty bucks per install.

I've not seen one on an I pod, but I doubt it's as nice as viewing it on a twenty three inch monitor. Can you interface it with the regional navionics chips to plot waypoints and courses? Is it the same program as Navplanner2, which I'm guessing is the one to which you are referring.

In any case, the Navionics folks are good people. I had the program on two computers and was replacing the older one. All I had to do to get another activation for the new unit was to capture the screen image showing the program, then capture the same screen image after I uninstalled the program.

They gave very clear and easy instructions on how to remove the program, and how to capture the screen image. Once I had done that and sent them the images, they gave me another activation for the new computer.

The same goes for the customer service crew at Fugawi in Canada. Fugawi is the program developer. Navionics markets the product under their name. I had a couple of issues with my program. In fact, it was Fugawi who helped with the uninstall and capturing the image of the file they needed.

Contacted Navionics and they referred me to Fugawi. They could not have been better in resolving my issues. They responded promptly, with clear and concise solutions.

Two thumbs up for both parties.

I have it on my iPhone 3. I use it all the time at the console while driving to my waypoints. Also, this app shows a little more detail than the Navionics chip I have in my fish finder. I think it is one of the best apps I have purchased, and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I have it on my Galaxy android and use it all the time. Mostly on my downtime at work to learn more about the lakes I fish. It is worth more than the $10 to me.
