FriedLizard Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I want to match it up with 6'7 carrot stix..which spinning ya'll suggest? Reasonably priced of course lol thanks Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 You'll have to state a price range. To me, $200 for a Shimano CI4 is reasonable enough to own three. But that might not be your range. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 There are so many reels in the 60.00-100.00 range that would be a quality reel. Just pick one and go with it. Shimano symetre---99.99 Shimano Sahara----79.99 Pflueger Supreme--99.99 Pflueger President-.59.99 These are just a few to get you started. Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 It's hard to argue with the reliability of a Pflueger President. Same goes for the old Tournament SS Daiwa. I like the Pflueger Supreme, and feel OK recommending them. Can't be beat for around 100 bucks IMO Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I suggest if you can that you get to a store that carries a couple of brands and get a feel for some of the reels and reel zizes. Everyone here will have a personal preference and what may work well for me may not work well for you. Pick a price point and get some hands on with reels in that price point. Quote

Even better would be to fish with them.....I've checked out a few in-store that I thought were garbage, but work great, and seem to be holding up fine. (the large spool BPS spinning reels come to mind) Quote
FriedLizard Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 50-120 is my price range but im def. going to looking to all the recomendations. I really enjoy this forum such great info! thanks guys Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 You can find Shimano Stradics on clearance at Gander Mtn. and a few other retailers. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 In the price range you mentioned I'd first spend a lot of time doing research, the choices are many, about every manufacturer will make something you're going to like and will do the job. I'm sure after some research you will whittle your list down a bit, go see those reels in person and see how they feel on the rod and what your eye thinks of them. Your selection, what ever it winds up being will work just fine, you will not make a mistake but if you do, it's a learning experience which may be more valuable than buying the right one in the first place. Super User ww2farmer Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 I have always liked the Daiwa Excelers in that price range, which btw, is about as much as I will spend on a spinning reel. While I have never been a fan of Daiwa casting reels, I do like there spinning reels. I plan on adding one of the new Arids this winter. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 Pretty safe to assume this is going to be a reel for bass fishing. Uhhh, this is BassResource.com after all. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 Uhhh, this is BassResource.com after all. True It is BassResource.com, but also true there is an Other Species forum as well. That said maybe my assumption wasn't safe, but it case it was, it's now edited. bassin is addicting Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 i've got 2 Presidents and use them 3-4 times a week for the past 5 years and they have never failed me. can't beat them for the price. IMO Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 1, 2011 Global Moderator Posted December 1, 2011 That new Pfluegar Supreme MGX is a sweet looking reel for $99. If my wife doesn't get me one for Christmas I've already got the money in my paypal account ready to go for one. I don't know anyone that owns a president that doesn't love it. Quote
dcorp Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 If you can push your buget a bit I would recommend a quantum smoke. You can get one on ebay for under $130. They are LEGIT. And this is coming from a daiwa guy. Quote
RyneB Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Id say a Abu Garcia Orra SX, but im biased. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 1, 2011 Global Moderator Posted December 1, 2011 Now that's funny right there. I'd get it before Christmas and just call it a present to myself but I always give her a hard time about buying stuff before Christmas so I can't be doing it myself Quote
trevor Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 You can find Shimano Stradics on clearance at Gander Mtn. and a few other retailers. The Stradic is an incredible reel. Just bulletproof and buttery smooth. I use the 4000 size for saltwater fishing small shark and Mahi, and they just never quit. Quote
Big Al23 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Pflueger Patriarch if you call $199 reasonable. I have 2 of the Gander Mtn X Factor reels that are built by Pure fishing (Abu Garcia) and they are just like the Pflueger. They sell for $149 but Gander Mtn had them on sale a few months ago for $99.
