JigMe Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Got a recommended repair bill from my local dealership, and it wants me to replace the strut bar plus bushing because it is cracked. But this is going to cost me a gram for the repair, anyone know if there are any risk to drive it for a month or two without the repair? I couldnt get a good answer from the dealership, but that's not new. Quote

When you say strut bar, that is a term that lots of folks use for the underhood bracing that runs from side to side, and sometimes triangulates to the windshield/firewall area. Quote

JigMe Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 Well, on the repair ticket it says both front strut rod, and bushing torn, need replacement. All I know it is below the car, and can't see it until you life it up. Quote

JIGFISHERMAN. Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 The only thing I can think of with a bushing that could tear, and be called a strut bar is a sway bar or anti-roll bar. Or maybe even the end-links. Endlinks your looking at $50, and an hour of your time tops, based on ZERO repair experience. Entire sway bar, just as easily done by someone with no experience, but a little longer time. Possibly more money depending on if the mounting brackets need to be replaced. Quote

However as long as it not the tie rods, you should be fine. Having those fail is very bad. Again though, if your refering to what I think you are you will be fine. Quote

Unless you have been issued this along with a state vehicle safety inspection you will be okay. Quote

IMO if the OP does have a shop work on this I would want either a MUCH better explanation of what they are doing, or go somewhere else. It is a dual/unequal a-arm front suspension Quote

To be honest, I still don't know what they are talking about. But, based on the fact they said bushing torn, and looking at the suspension I honestly think you will be fine, likely for a LONG time. The rubber bushings in it's control arms can start to tear, and yet stay intact for a long, long time. Quote

Regardless even with a double wishbone control 'a' arm, it has a coil on spring or coil and spring component to the vertical mounting plate. Quote
