Buying A Jig Rod

hello i am currently in the market for a jig rod. i have done some pretty extensive research on it already and the one thing you can't measure by staring at a computer screen is sensitivity.

i want to buy the best jig rod i can regardless of the price. i am a fairly tall guy so anything under 7'3 feels way to small to me, and i lean towards stiffer rods. i will be mainly throwing a 3/4 oz jig in 20 ft or better. so my question is what is the best rod for this technique? i have just about ruled out the loomis nrx because any rod long enough does not have heavy enough action but i have not used any so i don't know if the m/h rod would be ok in loomis? any feedback or help will be greatly appreciated, thanks

I use a BCR855 for that. I wish I had BCR875. MH I seriously doubt will be heavy enough.

p.s. I really hate braided line, but I fish it on my jig rods. I believe the line

has improved my jig fishing significantly.

thanks, i have always heard braided line was more sensative. i used to use it all the time for everything until i tried pline now i use it for everything i have never tried using braid for deep jigs though. have any of ya'll tried the okuma helios extra heavy 7'6?

I'm using a Dobyns DX745 for the technique you mentioned. It's perfect for heavier footballs or pitching jigs. It's worth taking a look for sure. Really sensitive rod.

Edit - Just got back from a trip where I used a jig around some chunk rock and cinder blocks on the DX745. In all honesty man, I think this is the rod for you. It's just the perfect action for fishing jigs.

Well, if you like a nice heavy rod, I think the GLX BCR875 would be perfect for you. I like to use this rod for fishing heavy Carolina Rigs in deep water and it really works well.

I hate to be the odd one out and cannot comment on most of these rods but I have used the CUC-74H and love it. Seems to be in your specifications and I bet you will like it.

I have a stock Kistler 7'-6" z bone that I am using for jig fishing. If sensitivity is what you are looking then the z bone will be perfect. I also went on their web site and built my own jig rod. I built a 7'-8" z bone flipping stick with micro guides, great rod for big jigs. I also use it for deep water carolina rig fishing. This rod is super light and very sensitive.

X2 I love my MBR844c for jigs. I have a hard time thinking the nrx854 is going to be that much better for jiggin. That being said I love my nrx852 over my glx852.

The NRX 854 blows the 844GLX out of the water, there's just no comparison. The NRX is my favorite deep jig rod, far and away, particularly in that 3/4 ounce weight. The 893 will also handle a 3/4 ounce jig very well, and you gain additional length to generate tip speed on the hook set.

The Cumara is also a very good rod in the class. I don't really like to draw comparisons wit it, but let's say that it fishes like rods that are well into the $350 range.

If you like stiffer rods, look at the Daiwa Zillions.

I'm one of those people that considered the 844 GLX to be the best jig rod ever made. You have no idea just how huge a statement that is coming from me. I don't think the 893 is out of the question at 3/4 at all. I use it for that very purpose quite often on several of the lakes I fish.

Cool. I have been thinking about 854 NRX, but decided to spend it on the 873 carolina rig instead. I love the 854 GLX for 10' worms, but tended to stick with the MBR 844 for jigs. Maybe I will upgrade this spring. Once can only hope that Loomis releases a 894 NRX. That would be sweet.
