Fish Chris Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Some of you other old guys will remember this original track, by Neil Young - Old Man (1971).... which was a great / popular song in it's time. But this 2011 remix by Redlight Kings - Old Man..... I really wish I could play this track for any of you that like music. Absolutely one of my loudest, smoothest, most defined, and clearest tracks, to date. Straight to the demo folder Not to mention just a kick **** song Hope you like it, Peace, Fish Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted November 27, 2011 Super User Posted November 27, 2011 Sorry Chris, that was sad. You'd think that if they were going to ruin a song with Rap (or whatever that's called when they don't actually sing), it could at least be something from the Disco Era! Fortunately I listened to the original so it will take away the possibility of nightmares. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVC2cszdTao 1 Quote
Fish Chris Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 Lund, your kidding me ? Your talking with a guy who listens to any genre (except maybe.... uhhh.... did you mention disco ? WTH ? LOL) from any era..... and this song was just REALLY well done. In fact, I was just checking out some background stuff on this song, and I found out that when this group first asked Neil Young for permission to use it, his lawyers said NO... his advisors said NO... all of his peeps said NO, NO, NO..... But then finally, they got Neil Young himself to listen to it just one time. He loved it, and immediately gave them permission. Peace, Fish Sorry Chris, that was sad. You'd think that if they were going to ruin a song with Rap (or whatever that's called when they don't actually sing), it could at least be something from the Disco Era! Senkoman12 Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 i gotta go with fish chris, the redlight king version is pretty awesome Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 27, 2011 Super User Posted November 27, 2011 Geez, not my deal at all. I'm 95% C&W, but I occasionally like some alternative music. This is much better "in studio", but Lady Gaga looks so cool as Marilyn Monroe: :D Quote
SDoolittle Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Sorry Chris, that was sad. You'd think that if they were going to ruin a song with Rap (or whatever that's called when they don't actually sing), it could at least be something from the Disco Era! Lund, I couldn't agree with you more. Thank you for posting the old version. Hopefully that will keep me from having nightmares. Quote
Fish Chris Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 So Lund and Bird Dog, I'm just curious, what types of music you guys do listen to ? I have a very wide taste in music myself. Whatever you listen to, I bet I have some of it in my collection...... but I bet not one of those songs will sound like this recording does on my system. Hey, so how about this one ? I actually have this in my music collection, and it's a fantastic recording, with some deep bass, and great separation Of course kids love it, but adults just trip to hear it like they were at a Disneyland concert LOL Just watched it I actually love this song LOL Fish Lund, I couldn't agree with you more. Thank you for posting the old version. Hopefully that will keep me from having nightmares. Quote
Fish Chris Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 Well hey guys, if you want a song to hate on (because I'm still kind of tripping you don't like that first one (Senko, it's badd, right ? ) Here's one that's really out there. You REALLY need to hear this one on a good, balanced, high powered system system Lotta' young people love this stuff (dubstep, glitch) and at least 1 bald headed 47 year old who will never grow up LOL Fish Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted November 28, 2011 Super User Posted November 28, 2011 Fish, it might be easier to explain what music I don't like. I just hope that you understand that this is just my opinion and taste in music varies widely. It starts with some of the older country "twang-twang" music, probably includes most polkas, and definitely includes disco. I didn't include rap in that last sentence as I just don't consider it music. The constant whump-whump effect of the heavy bass could just as easily be accomplished sitting anywhere near a pile driver in my opinion. I also sort of expect the performer to actually be able carry a tune rather than reciting words. Your first choice of music on this thread kind of shows what I mean where it sounds like the original artist's voice is blended into this characters speaking rendition. Most of the things I do like includes many of the older Big Band sounds including swing, jazz, and/or blues. Not that I will listen to it all of the time, but I do enjoy listening to the likes of Glenn Miller, Boots Randolph, Al Hirt, Count Basie and many others. I also enjoy most of the stuff that came out of the sixties and seventies even though I'm not real big into the bubblegum stuff of that era. Almost anything Motown still ranks high on my list. There was also a time when the Moody Blues was tops. But those where different days in my life I won't be returning to. These days, I'll occasionally listen to some of the more modern country when its forced on me, but I find myself looking for classic rock when I actually want to listen to music. Did I mention that one of the strange habits I have is ALWAYS driving with the radio off? Rather like how you enjoy fishing alone, my peace and quiet time is behind the wheel. Now I just have wonder how many of the guys on here don't realize that they've liked Boots Randolph's #1 hit without even knowing it! Quote
Sfritr Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Thank God we can all agree that we love to fish............ Gentlemen, that is the most RANDOM, ECLECTIC, WACKY mix of music I have ever heard in one post.. RW - Sorry, but Lady Gaga looks like woody the woodpecker with that schnozz Lund- I love me some jazz but the Benny Hill theme?? Chris - Not a fan of the remake, but then again, I never liked Neil Young I'm mostly a classic rock/ Country guy: Van Halen, Maiden, Jamie Johnson, Jennings, etc However, I must admit that I have a thing for soulful female artists: Joss Stone, Susan Tedeschi, Fiona Apple, and anything by Jennifer Nettles Man, I'm screwed up too.... Must be a fisherman thing Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 28, 2011 Super User Posted November 28, 2011 Geez, not my deal at all. I'm 95% C&W, but I occasionally like some alternative music. Gaga alternative? NOT! Check out some Metric if you want to see a real alt band fronted by a cute blonde, LOL. This'll sound sweet on your truck too, Chris. Quote
Fish Chris Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 Not bad. Reminds me of the old 80's group 'Missing Persons'.... Fish Gaga alternative? NOT! Check out some Metric if you want to see a real alt band fronted by a cute blonde, LOL. This'll sound sweet on your truck too, Chris. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 29, 2011 Super User Posted November 29, 2011 Yep, but without the Gaga look, LOL. Ladies and gentlemen, Missing Persons (control yourself Kent, she's your age now! ): Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 OK Please take a minute to hear this. New artist with some soul to his sound. I love it! It's really a shame what urban music has become since the 60's/70's. Most of that crap today is just pure garbage. I can't even tell if some of it is english, or supposed to be a joke or what. Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 This was another band that I used to like alot, and then quit following. 8 piece box was the first album from them I heard. Then followed from there. Quote
Stasher1 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Well hey guys, if you want a song to hate on (because I'm still kind of tripping you don't like that first one (Senko, it's badd, right ? ) Here's one that's really out there. Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 Well since everyone is posting videos of songs they like. I figured I'd offer up one of mine. Not only is she HOT, but she can also growl and sing. My link Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 Here's my final submission for a video. This one is very minimal on the screaming/growling, and more into the singing. Same label but different band. My link Quote
Fish Chris Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 Raider Nation, I'd like to see the vids your talking about, but your links are not to individual vids, but rather, entire pages of vids ? Fish Quote
Fish Chris Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 But hey anyway Raider, just your mention of a chick that "growls" made me think of this one Not so much in this vid..... But this chick is cool Peace, Fish Quote
Super User Root beer Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 A southern man don't need Neil Young around. Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 A southern man don't need Neil Young around. So what was the beef about with those guys anyhow? I like skynyrd for sure, but N/Y has some good songs. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted November 30, 2011 Super User Posted November 30, 2011 So what was the beef about with those guys anyhow? I like skynyrd for sure, but N/Y has some good songs. It was directly to his songs that was about racism in the south. Particularly in Alabama. Songs like "Alabama" and "Southern Man" was thought to degrade the south and Alabama. So Ronnie Van Zant wrote Sweet Home Alabama in respond to it. He also took a shot at George Wallace in the song too. At least that what I've been told growing up. Sweet Home Alabama suppose to sing praise about state of Alabama and also it calls out some controversy issues. Such as Neil Young's songs, George Wallace, and Watergate. Don't you just love music? Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted December 1, 2011 Super User Posted December 1, 2011 But hey anyway Raider, just your mention of a chick that "growls" made me think of this one Not so much in this vid..... But this chick is cool Peace, Fish Holy dang! That is one of my all time favorite bands. I love the kidney thieves! Free Dominguez the singer also has some solo albums out. They are more contemporary, but actually really good. The woman can sing. Quote
