Just wanted to get some feed back about the Avid and Legend Tournament.Pros and cons and which one would be the one you would have a boat full of.

Legend Tournament. Pros: More sensitive and better balance, guides, etc than the Avid. Cons: Cost more.

I'll take a boat full of legend tournaments.

I've got both but if I had the money to have a boatful of one or the other I'd go with LTB rods. If I could I'd like to have the older, full grip models for my faster moving baits and the split grip for my plastics and jig rods. No reason other than personal preference on the handles. I really don't think you could go wrong with a boat full of either rod though, both lineups are great rods and really nice to fish with but I'd have to say the price is the only Con I can think of on the LTB.

The Rage rods use the same blanks as the avid line. They are a little more affordable due the the use of EVA as opposed to cork which is going up and up. EVA is a fine grip material, just cheaper to produce.

To answer the original question the price difference between the avid and ltb is totally worth it, and i would much rather have the ltb than the avid. Not that there is anything at all wrong with the avid, but for the price you can get the ltb's right now you need to jump on them. As far as the rage rods, i know they are the same blank as the avid, but for whatever reason i do not like the feel of these rods at all, maybe its just me?

Your not alone. I held all the Rage rods with reels on them and they are not very comfortable to me, and look butt ugly. The Neoprene grip just feels way to small, more suited to smaller hands IMO, and I HATE all the Pac Bay on this rod. Its bad enough they went with the Pac Bay Minima reel seat, but then they went with minima guides? However, I think they made a step in the right way going with Micros on on the Rage.

Love my LTB Teaser rod... cannot think of a single con. Avids have a huge following and a great reputation though, so you're going to win either way. Whichever one you think looks and feels better, that's the one you should get.

I'm an Avid gal. We have a LE and while a beautiful rod, it's awaiting warranty replacement thanks to a hefty line wrap that snapped the top. Didn't expect that...

Really depends on a couple things for me..

Application, length, action & power combo availability. PRO to LTB on the combo availability. For me - unnecessary. Couple different general purpose action/powers and one W&J.

Handle material & design - If you like split grip then. PRO to LTB / CON if you don't.

Reel seat design - reel seat flex irritates me if I'm using a spinning reel. Casting reel I don't notice it because of how I side palm the reel. So, I'm not sure how the new split seat design on the LTB is. No Opinion-Neutral.

The LTBs have the new blank materials for 2012, but most of us average anglers don't usually notice the difference in the blank materials between the Legend and Avid series. Duly noted from say the Premier to Avid.

I, personally, dislike the Rage, Mojo and Triumph series.

The Rage series has me very confused. I understand the reasoning behind the modern materials, but it just feels sloppy. It's not what I'm used to or expect from St. Croix.

i dont think you can go wrong with either, i have 2 legend tournaments, and an avid and all 3 are great rods, very sensitive, light, etc.

using the same weight jig and minnow, with the same line (sufix 832 10lb), the ltb 6'9" mlxf is a bit more sensitive than the 6'3" mxf avid, is it worth the $50-60 difference between the 2? only you can be the judge of that, i got my ltb for about 190 so for me it was worth getting over the avid i was planning on getting.

also if you dont like the split grip of the LTB (and are looking for spinning rods, as there is only 2 casting in the LTWS), look for the legend tournament walley series, same blanks but with full grips.

Welcome to the forum. There are now 3 of us from the Lehigh Valley that I am aware of.

I currently have 3 Legend Tournaments, 2 Avids, and 2 Mojo's. I love them all. I have also in the past had Premiers, and Triumphs,no complaints with them either. Those 7 rods are all I have right now, and going forward, any I add will only be St Croix's.
