Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 25, 2011 Super User Posted November 25, 2011 So tomorrow starts my first day of training for the 2013 winter Tough Guy challenge. I got a year to get back in shape for this. The lifting and General working out is a snap. However the cardio is gonna be rotten, I've never been that big on cardio, but I got to do it. Also any of you guys wanna setup a team and go with me. Appearntly it nets discounts on entry fees to go as a team rather than as an individual. So anyone wanna go with me? Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 25, 2011 Super User Posted November 25, 2011 Sounds fun I'm with you on cardio being rotton iv never been strong in that department other then college and highschool and I still wasn't great. What got mine up though was biking and running hills/stairs 2 things I need to start up again considering I'm packing the pounds on quick lately Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 25, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 25, 2011 Running hills sounds fun. It actually sounds like a lot of fun. I'm gonna try that. Biking sounds fun also. I always enjoyed biking when I was in my teens. Still hill running sounds more my style. Homie I am so doing that tommorow. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 25, 2011 Super User Posted November 25, 2011 Too much work involved. Quote

From my experience you would think running up hill would be hard but I found running down hill harder and more painful. It kills the I think the Tibia with PAIN. Quote
VolFan Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 If running hills is fun, you're doing it wrong. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 25, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 25, 2011 If running hills is fun, you're doing it wrong. Bout to go try it out in about forty five minutes. If I can put the heart into that I used to put into my clean and jerks. I think it could be a blast. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 26, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 26, 2011 My poor legs, feel like jelly. I ran the hill at my old high school for an hour earlier today. It's sits at about a 50 degree angle and is 150 yards from base to top. The last 20 times up I ran on my toes. Sweet mother Mary that did me in. However I absolutely loved it, and I haven't had a cig since then either. I think I have found a new hobby and a reason to quit smoking all rolled into one. This is as fun if not more than power lifting was. Man I love life. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 26, 2011 Super User Posted November 26, 2011 We had a drill Sgt in basic that was his favorite smoking for us when ever he was on CQ he made us run the hill outback of the barracks man was it killer. The jello legs are the worst afterwards but hills help your stride for running distance as well. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 26, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 26, 2011 I didn't know it would help with stride. My baby bro told me it'll give you some massive legs if you do it enough. Sounds like its win win. I get to do it three days a week on alternating days, so hopefully it will pay dividends with the weight lifting program we put together. Oh, and next Friday my bro and my other buddy are going with me and I get to do it to failure. In layman's terms you go at an even pace everytime up and down till your muscles fail. It gives you a maximum set point for that muscle sets total endurance. After working out another four to six weeks you go to failure again. This allows you to physically see your progress. I've done this for years with my weight training but never knew you could apply it to cardio as well. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted November 26, 2011 Super User Posted November 26, 2011 Green tea helps with muscle soreness. Mountain biking will definitely help you, or road cycling if you got some good hills in your area. I would join you, but I'm done. I rode bikes in the mountains last night for about 15 miles in 30 degrees weather. My leg is done. Surgery is set for December 22nd. Quote

Iv done hills and stairs till failure along with other work outs. The only thing with doing it on hills is when u fail at the base but the car/house is back up top the walk back suckssssssss. Biking does work as well I used to bike 20+miles a day my mom figured when I was younger peddling to my friends ever day then to fishing holes afterwards it was definitely over 20 because I do the same route still in my car and pay attention to it now that it's gas money. Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 26, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 26, 2011 Root beer, good call on the green tea. It did help some. Sorry to hear about the leg homie, and hopefully the recovery won't be too bad. Clayton, that's hilarious about the chick legs. Up until I was asked to permanently leave college, I used to ride my mountain bike all the time. I put thousands of miles on that bike before we got rid of it. If I wasn't pumping all my extra money into going to this competition I would definitely get another bike. Maybe I can find one on the internet for dirt cheap. I would like to take it back up, but don't know if I can afford it yet. Oh well, I gotta get to the gym. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 26, 2011 Super User Posted November 26, 2011 I'm not healthy so I can enter in the Internet Tough Guy competition Quote
