How does the Shimano Core 50MG7 compare to the Curado 50? I know it's lighter & faster but will it do even better throwing light baits...

What is a used core worth ? $220?

Posted

The Core is a much smoother, and lighter reel, right out of the box. If you are looking to put a light outfit together then the Core is the ticket. If weight is not a problem then save yourself some money and get a Curado 50. Also the Core has a higher IPT than the 50. Things to think about.

Price of used depends on condition, box with goodies, etc. I would say $220 is on the low side for a decent, with box, Core 50mg7.

I love my 50E & if the nearest Academy wasen't over 3 hours away I'd be in line for another 1-2 on Black Friday.

The Core does have all the goodies & box. It Does not have any boat rash & was not fished alot... so the story goes.

I have both and some minor differences between the 2 are besides weight and color Ive noticed are

1. Curado handle length is slightly longer I believe

2. The levelwind bar is metal on the Core, plastic on the Curado

3. The dragstar on the Core is metal I think, plastic on the Curado

4. More bearings in the Core

5. The levelwind on the Core is tapered while the Curados is not.

The spools are the same except for the color so the performance should be near identical or close.

1/8th ounce lures are no problem with 6-8lb test

I love my Core 100 and 50.

HOWEVER, I like the comparable Curado a lot for a MUCH better price.

I cannot see any reason to step up to the Core.

There is simply not enough "value added".

That's what I thought. I may end up selling it and buying another 50e.

Hey guys, what line should I put on this thing? I ordered some 12# fc but I am thinking I may want a lighter line. It will be mounted to a 7' Medium rod & used for Light finess.

I currently have #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid (purple smoke) spooled.

If you want to use fluorocarbon, Tatsu or AbrazX #12 are my

suggestions.

Note: The Tatsu is expensive, but it's really KILLER if you don't care about the price.

Have heard nothing but good things, only thrown one once, and it was a pleasure, but if your on a budget the 50e is an awesome reel and ALMOST as good IMO

I also have both reels, both with Orange Seal bearings installed. On the water, I can't tell any difference in overall performance. Both are smooth, quiet reels that work well. The 1.5oz is the biggest difference I notice between them, and it's not that big a deal as the 50E is still a very light reel.

X2, I really like mine. I will never own a Core, but would buy another 50 in a heartbeat.

On the subject of weight.. the Curado 50 is light.. it feels like a feather after picking up my Revo SX, but then when I put the Curado down and pick up my Core 50, Im like WOW thats light, its definitely noticeable when you pick up one after the other.

I got the Core today. Cleaned it up,flushed the bearings & gave her a dab of oil.

line should show up Tomorrow for it (Shooter). However Tomorrow I will be the shooter it's opening day of rifle season! I'll be leaving the Core 50 at home & taking the AR-15 (in 6MM PPC) with me in the morning...:D
