Jaheff Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 looking to see if anyone has compared or use both of these reels. looking to put it on a Kistler mirco helium and i dont have any history with either reels. thanks Can't speak for the Lew's, but I have been eyeballing one myself..I have two Advantages and an HST. Pros-Smooth on cast and retrieve. Great all around reel. Time proven, work horse. Can be used in salt water. Cons- Heavy by today's standards. (especially compared to the TP)The reel is wide, doesn't palm great if you have small hands. Quote
pitchinthejig Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 i have a bunch of HSTA's that are used for when i guide people i want them to have decent reels to use so i make sure i have 5 or 6 setups for them to use and all will be td-a hsta's and ive had them for a good while now and they get used hard by many people a year and stood up to it well... whats nice about them is they are just about a Zillion thats over 100 bucks cheaper and they will last a life time, they cast light and heavy baits alike they cast great even with novice users of casting reels and like i said stand up to abuse very well... all around they are a great deal for the price and imho a very palmable reel thats fairly comfortable to fish. im a Daiwa only kinda guy so i cant speak for the others.... the only non Daiwa reels i own are a couple ABU/ZPI AE74's setting in the display case lol. I agree, HSTA's feel just like a Zillion with a different shape. I would get the Lew's TP in a heartbeat though! Quote
Professional Overrun Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I have been fishing the lews tourney pro for about a month now, and i loooove it. Unfortunately i dont have any daiwa reels, but i like their products a lot. Ive got it on a dobyns 734 ss savy rod and its a nice, lightweight package with more than enough power and drag for any bass i might encounter. What i like most about it though is that it throws 1/8 to 1/4 ounce baits really well, which for me, makes it my number one setup. Its also super smooth on the retrieve, but im sure the daiwa is a really smooth reel as well, so.....its your call, but i love my lews reel. Quote
