dcorp Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Hey guys, do you recommend using a leader of mono to tie onto the spool before spooling braid. I do this on my spinning reels but I haven't in the past on a baitcaster.... but I haven't fished braid on a baitcaster in probably 5 years. Thanks, Dan Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Yes. It will stop the braid from slipping on the spool. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Either use backing or a layer of electrical tape to prevent line slippage. I use a lot of backing and only 2 1/2 casts worth (<100 yds)of braid. This saves expensive line that will never see the light of day. Quote
philsoreel Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 It also cuts down on cost significantly. Quote

dcorp Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 Wow, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks guys! Quote
James Yalem Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I use 50 yards of the braid and mono backing to fill the spool. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted November 19, 2011 Super User Posted November 19, 2011 electrical tape works best. Quote
Jim_M Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Yep, about 6 turns of that cheap tacky electrical tape from WalleyWorld has worked great for me. Ideal width for my baitcasters too. j Quote
