flippin and pitchin Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I was just scanning the net and read Roland Martin signed up to fish FLW majors in 2012. Interesting. I've always admired Guy Eaker, Larry Nixon and Guido Hibdon. Now Roland is back in the mix. I hope the man remains competetive. Quote
1234567 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I saw him just the other day getting on I75 here in Ft. Myers. He was driving a big Gary Yamamoto decaled van towing his Nitro Z8. I hope he does well too. Love all these guys like Martin, Dance, Parker, Grigsby. They provided me many hours of entertainment while growing up! Quote
bassgrabber1 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Roland is awesome !!! Van Dam is coming up right behind him. I think I learned the most from Dance tho.....that guy just knows his stuff. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted November 19, 2011 Super User Posted November 19, 2011 Great to see... hopefully he keeps doing well. Quote
OcBassman63 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Had to see it comming after Scott won the FLW Cup this year. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 If Bill Dance got back in the mix Id have to go to a few weigh ins, Roland is real entertaining, but Dance does more teaching, IMO. NGaHB Quote
grampa1114 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 The older guys, going back on tour, works for me but I think that it's getting to be a young man's game...at least on a professional level. I would, however, enjoy a "Legends" tour, starring all our older heroes. Hey Jerry McGinnis...are you listening? Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted November 21, 2011 Super User Posted November 21, 2011 I guess I'm the odd man out here, if there's one person on the face of the planet that would drive me away from fishing a tournament it would be Roland Martin. He's an egocentric bigot with very little class and/or tact in relating to the public. Having been a witness to his actions in the past, I would not endorse him or anything he does. We have fished out of the marina in the past, and have been treated so poorly that we vowed never to spend a dollar there again. In terms of what he's done for the sport, I've met not one person that is more lazy in his approach. Roland Martin thinks that because he has money, it justifies his rude, crass behaviour. I have witnessed him paying people for information and marked maps. I have witnessed him paying people for doing his pre-fishing. I don't like him, I never will. Quote

That dosen't surprise me, you can tell how he interacts with the people on his show. Hes going to have to find a scale if hes going to get back in the game, he seems to double the weight every time he talks about a fish on the show Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I suspect others feel the same way, but just don't want to be negative. That would explain the few posts. I don't care for him at all either. I think he would promote fishing with dinomite if he were payed to do it. Quote
grampa1114 Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Dynamite...yea...yea...that's the deal today....you can catch a 5-6-7-8-9-10lb bass with dynamite. Right Roland? I still think a 'Legends Tour' would be good for the sport. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted December 4, 2011 Super User Posted December 4, 2011 I think it will be interesting to watch and see how he does. Not saying I'm a big fan, just would like to see if he's still capable and consistent in todays field. Quote

Not saying I'm a big fan, just would like to see if he's still capable and consistent in todays field. It's not like he has to run a sub 4 minute mile to compete. He has a proven track record of knowing how to fish and compete at the highest level, no question in my mind he should do just fine. Quote

Everybody has a right to their opinion of Roland and there are a lot of stories and I have one too but not shared here. I am surprised at including the marina in the negative comments though. I am there probably 4-5 days a month, which is a lot but I am hardly a local insider. I've never experienced anything negative or rude or seen it either. That whole operation is under Mary Ann and I think she sets a tone for good treatment of people. Just my .02 Quote
jeremyt Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Good for him. I won't voice my personal opinion because I have never met the man and sometimes perception isn't reality. Quote
