Flippin/punchin Rod

Right now i have a spinning combo for drop shotting and one for topwaters. Then a M baitcaster for spinners, cranks, traps. etc and one for shallow cranks, flukes, and pitching. I'd like to get one more baitcasting combo that I can use strictly for flippin/punchin and heavier pitching duties. I'm lookin at a Powell endurance MH 775 flippin rod or a dobyns 766 flip. I can afford to go a little pricier with the dobyns cause I get a 40% discount through my teams sponsorship. Just wondering which of those you thought would be better and if you have any other suggestions. I was thinking maybe a st. croix mojo bass too.

Not sure what I'm gonna put on top of it yet, i really like quantum though so probably whichever one I can afford. Still open for suggestions though.

I'd love to hear what you use and how you like it. I'm mostly going to punch through really thick weed mats on my local lakes with it but I will be using it in tournaments all over the north east this season.

I just ordered the dobyns 805 flip/punch rod, i haven't gotten a chance to use it yet though. Through my recent research people say you can't beat the "Dobyns Extreme Flip 795". I couldn't afford the extreme so i settled with the 805 champion.

I've got a dobyns 805 and 766 FLIP and love both rods. I have quantum accurist reels on both. Those are very solid reels, the flippin switch is nice for flipping/pitching and they are very reasonable in price.

I have a Dobyns Champion 765 Flip. I cannot imagine the need for the 766 unless you are pulling out cinder blocks. The 765 has more than enough power to punch. If you want the entra length, an 805, you should be right there. As mentioned, The Extreme 795 would be oustanding. If you get a 40% certificate, it's the way to go.

Thanks guys I really think I'm gonna go with the Dobyns. I've heard nothing but good things and it'd be nice to support the sponsor. I picked up a quantum tour edition reel on sale at cabelas so I'll probably put that on it or my switch my accurist over and put the tour edtion on my cranking rod. I like the 7.0:1 ratio for flippin though.

I just got to mess around with my 805 flip, it's EXTREMELY lightweight for a 8ft heavy action rod! It also balances quite well with and without a reel. The only complaint I have is the butt section is a tad short. The action and power feel spot on from what I can tell, I'm gonna go test it out on the water tomorrow and I'll report back.

If cost wasn't an issue for me I would've definitely gotten the 795, but the 805 will do for now. I've read that the 795 has a very similar action and power but it's way more sensitive, lighter and it balances even better than the 805.

I just got in a new Phenix Recon 765 and it feels awewsome. It's lighter than the Dobyns and from the reviews, super sensitive and definately cooler looking. + its $100 less!!

Good luck with your rod choice and since they are sponsor your choice makes even more sense. Sure it will perform well for you and great reel choice as well as I have the accurist ready to go onto a rod for light flipping and pitching as well.

The Dobyns is a killer rod. Their flip sticks are among the best out there. I have a 795 and the 766. Superb rods for the purpose.

cashion 7'6" h. if u havent used, seen, or read about cashion, u need to. the lightest, strongest, most sensitive rod i have ever ever ever used, no joke. theyre insane n their technology is second to none. also for reels, ardent f700, designed by denny brauer specifically for flippin, pitchin, punchin.

I've got a 766 and don't feel overpowered at all.

There's a saying when flipping the slop on Okeechobee. Every fish is a ten pounder. Sometimes you pull in 2lbs of fish and 8lbs of weeds. Sometimes its 8lbs of fish and 2lbs weeds.
