Ok. I have a 2 part question.

1. Does the polarization wear out over time? The reason i ask is because when you get a pair of new fishing glasses, you look around at the cars and the windows turn all kinds of nice colors. My glasses are a few years old, like 5 to 6 yrs. I don't see the color change in car windows anymore. The on the water performance seems fine.

2. What is the best brand that has the greatest amount of light blockage? I don't want to go so far as to have a vacume seal around my face, but want as much glare reduced as possible.

Thanks in advance.

In answer to the first part : Delamination can occur even with expensive brands. As for the second, Don' t expect the wally world specials to be good glasses.Get a better pair and you can wear them all day.  I have a pair of costa wavekillers with glass blue mirror lens that are O.K. for very bright conditions. They block a lot of the light but too much for normal inland conditions. They are better suited to blue water. The green mirrors would be better for me.For shallow waters or early and late in the day or slightly overcast conditions ,a copper lens would be better.  When it comes to blocking glare, the most important thing is to keep light from reaching the back side of the lens and bouncing back into your eyes . A hat is required along with side shields or at least very wide temples. The Wiley x inserts are designed to seal off the eyes from all light except what comes in from the front of the lens for this reason .I been have wanting to try them but they may cause the eyes to sweat in warm weather with the foam seals in place. I would love to hear from some one who has them on this point.

Anything from Costa Del Mar, Glass lenses, green tint. That solves everything! :P

x2. I got Costa Del mar fathom with green mirror lens. I've had mine for 4 years and going the lens are same as the day I bought them. :( Life time warranty on them is pretty good, but I have yet to used it. ;)

Green Mirror has amber lens, so you might want consider Blue Mirror glasses for more light blockage.

Wiley X Jakes are great.  I was a wally world 12 dollar special glasses guy until my wife and daughter bought me a pair of Jakes for fathers day.

Unbelievable comfort and optical grade lenses keeps the eye fatigue to a minimum.  I have the inserts but since I always fish with a large floppy hat I prefer the ventilation over total back-light blockage.  Good glasses are definitely worth the investment.

Costa's are EXTREMELY popular on this forum, but my RX polarized Oakley Flak Jackets work flawlessly so far.

I own costas blue mirror w/ 400 lenses. Great glasses! I plan on getting green mirror w/ 580 lenses after my friend letting me borrow his for a couple weeks.

Their warranty is great too. I know cause I've used it! I always wear croakies w/ my costas and one day at school last year I happened to go right from class to this party and never had a chance to drop off my glasses or leave them anywhere safe. I thought I'd be okay since the croakies keep 'em pretty secure. Anyways, the night involved a lot of alcohol and dancing and the next morning I woke up and could not find my glasses. After some of the haze cleared, I remembered I had them around my neck while dancing at the fraternity house. I went back to the house to check the basement and sure enough, my glasses were shattered and scattered to the four winds after being danced all over and completely raged on. I collected all the pieces, shipped them to CDM, paid a relatively small fee for repair. The glasses are like new, or maybe they even just gave me a new pair, I can't remember. Very happy with them!

A cool alternative to the Costa bandwagon would be some Oakley Frogskins! I just got these recently and the polarization kicks some serious ***! I'd say their effectiveness is somewhere between the 400 and 580 lenses of Costas. They don't keep the light out as well but they're 10x more stylish - they've got that rayban wayfarer look. They're also extremely lightweight compared to CDM which for me makes them more comfortable! Only downside is they're pretty rare and hard to find.

I went to Eye Care Associates to get mine.

Since you live in the triangle I would recommend going to them also if you do decide to get some.

The first time I ordered mine Oakley lost my order so it took me 5 weeks to get mine instead of the usual 1-2 weeks.

They gave me a free $100.00 book bag to try and make up for it.

;D

Been wearing polarized Oakley Half Jackets for a long time. Never have even had the urge to switch. Snug, comfortable and just the right size for my big-*** head.
