Worst Human Snagging

I like the topic of worst things we have snagged, and a few are people. I want to hear peoples stories of a hook penetrating a human.

My buddy was shoeless and sockless in his boat. He was walking to the middle to grab his pliers and stuck a treble into his foot. His uncle who was with us is an EMT and had the right skills to safely remove it.

This same friend sat down in my boat on the deck and got a treble in his rear end. The hard part was getting it out of the skin and his pants and boxers.

My dad went back to cast and drug a big deep diving crankbait across the top of my head. It ripped a big hole in my hat and pulled it off my head. I have really short hair and you could see the 3 streaks that were now oozing blood from where the trebles slid down my head. It didn't hurt like a cut but more like I'd been punched in the back of my head. Thankfully the force of the cast was enough that they just ripped out so at least it wasn't still buried in my head.

Thrashing pike, big lure. End of story basically lol. Stuck the tail end of a big jointed minnow right into the side of my middle finger near the base of the finger. After thrashing around, the fish finally unhooked itself before ripping my finger open. After yanking my hand all over the place, i still had to push it the rest of the way. Surprisingly, i felt no pain at all. Very fatty area of the finger. I should've stuck a nice little piercing in there, the hole was plenty large.

Other than that, no major problems with hooks in my flesh. My brother's caught me a few times, but those never went past the barb.

Janitor at the hospital, LOL. None of the surgeons were strong enough.

It's my friend Jim's hand. It was stuck in some water willow, and he yanked on it. 1.5 oz. tungsten did the rest.

He lived to fish again, LOL.

Was 10,hooked a #4 or #6 hook in my right arm after my line got caught in spool and flung back at me. I shielded my face and the hook caught my arm.

It cost my dad $175 in the ER to remove it...LOL(How i still remember that is beyond me.) Happened back in 1985.

I've been lucky so far and haven't hooked myself since.

I had a fish hooked on a High Power Herring. The fish came to the surface and did the dreaded head shake routine. Meanwhile, I was putting the screws to the fish. The bait came free, flying at me and brushed my leg. I thought to myself that I was lucky, but when I looked down, two Owner ST-41 Cutting Point trebles had buried into my calf beyond the barb. Luckily the tissue was soft enough and relatively pain free to pop out with pliers. It made that pop noise that it makes when you dehook a fish, LOL.

Two incidents come to mind...One, my old fishing partner and I were chasing schools of white bass on a local reservoir and his wife was onboard this trip. He back cast with a 1/2 oz. Kastmaster and heaved it for a long cast, burying two of the points on the treble hook deep into her scalp. That fishing trip was over. Chilly ride home, too.

The second was when I was fishing with the same guy, trolling Big Mac plugs for stripers. I had brought my line in and had the plug laying on the floor of the boat next to my seat when some **** in a glitter barge came zooming by. The wake caused me to lise my balance (which ain't real good anyway)and I fell with my knee right on the rear treble. Two f the points went in way past the barb. I had to push them out and cut off the barbs to remove the hook.

I dont know how many times me or my buddy in the back of the boat are yanking on our bait caught in the tree and it pops out and comes at the boat at 200 mph.

I did that with a roostertail on 6lb test one time. Trying to break the line off since it was stuck in a tree overhanging the water and we were on the bank. My buddy was trying to hide behind me in case it came flying back. Well that line stretched like a rubberband so when it ripped loose of the tree it was coming back at supersonic speeds. I stepped out of the way but my friend never saw it coming. The hook buried in his eyebrow and the blade hit him in the eye. He spun around and started screaming and when I first saw it I thought it was stuck in his eye He thought it was too because the blade hit him in the eye and apparently hurt really bad causing the colorful language. Lucky for him I had used the same roostertail to trout fish in a barbless hook only area earlier that year so the hook slid right back out, sure did bleed a lot for such a small hook though

Standing on the bank flinging a crank bait - felt a bite but he came off right away - casted back - same thing - 3rd cast, let the fish have it for a few seconds before setting the hook - when I got him in, he had 5 of the six hooks in his mouth - couldn't lip him, so I grabbed him around the mid-section - started taking out the hooks - got two out and he flopped and slipped down catching me between the thumb and index finger, burying the hook clear up to the bend. Got the rest of the hooks out of the fish's mouth, cut the line, gathered up my other two rods/reels and tackle box - when I got to the truck I couldn't unlock the door 'cause my keys were in the left front pocket (lure was in my left hand) - had to reach all the way around to finally get the keys - drove to the ER - the admitting nurse almost fainted. The doctor came in a took one look, left and came back with 4 med students to observe how he removed it - left with the lure in a specimen cup. Continued to catch fish with the lure until I snagged it in a brush pile and lost it

Had two: the 1st was a jerkbait. I managed to jerk it into the top of my head. The 2nd was at night. Fouled a Jitterbug in some lilypads and when I jerked it free the Bug headed straight for my eye. The hook went between the eyelids and ended protruding out of the upper lid. Easy to remove. Just cut off the end and barb and it backed right out. How my eyeball got out of that undamaged I'll never know.

well i didnt hook someone per se.me and some friends were fishing from a bridge on the roadside.he reared back to cast and snagged a passing SUV!The spinnerbait he was using was destroyed and the car was missing a headlight

And that is probably a reason why fishing from a bridge is illegal.

Only once past the barb for me. I was fishing a small farm pond, it had a bunch of muck on the surface from the bank out about 8-10 feet or so. When my topwater popper got close to the ring of muck, I would flick it up and over to avoid getting hung in it. Anyway, one time it got hung in the tall grass behind me and instead of turning around and walking five steps to get it out, I yanked that sucker while still facing away from it. It stuck in the back of my upper shoulder (was wearing sleeveless shirt). Cut line and drove to my moms work (elementry school) cuz I didn't know what to do. She sent me to the doc. Had to have it cut out.
