Super User slonezp Posted November 16, 2011 Super User Posted November 16, 2011 Why on earth do people "tweet" about the tv shows they are watching, AND why are the networks running the tweets on a reader across the screen?...and why am I reading them getting annoyed...and posting about them on the internet. I just don't get it. Please enlighten me. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I really think twitter it the dumbest thing around. I don't need to know what my buddys are doing every second of there life. I think were seeing all this twiiter bs on networks for a few reasons. More people are getting there news off facebook, twitter, and the net. I am in the group. I just watch the news before I head to bed and wake up. The second reason it my generation. They are all self centered attention whores. They think people care what they think. So the news feeds in to there egos. I never understood why you want to draw attention to your self. I try to fly under the radar. I don't even let my friends post pictures of me on Facebook. I am sorry there has to be privacy in this world. What I do at a bar at 2am is the not the worlds business. I am not sure if Twitter pays these news company for them to use twitter or not. If they do news company's need to make money also. Quote

Got me a job i believe. I ride a motorcycle and often work for the illinois motorcycle rider program. I also major in mathematics. During my interview, my boss mentioned that he was a mathematics major, rides a motorcycle, and was an instructor with the motorcycle rider program i work for. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 16, 2011 Super User Posted November 16, 2011 Nice at least worked in ur favor imagine all the kids who got tons of drinking party pics doing kegstands and stuff probably wouldent favor them though I don't think employers should be able to judge u on it. Quote

Actually, i think i got hired for my lack of prudence. My boss stocks a fridge in the back with beer and likes to have what some would consider immature and inappropriate conversations for the workplace. I fit right in! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted November 16, 2011 Super User Posted November 16, 2011 What's wrong with people? Some just don't have a life away from their computers. The only "social" networking I do is on this forum, and the occasional exchange of emails. Got to be bored as all get out to seek stimulation in tweeting or facebook. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted November 16, 2011 Super User Posted November 16, 2011 I just don't get it. I guess I don't get it either? What shows are you watching? Is your remote broken? Who are you following on twitter? LOL Seriously though, that is weird. I guess it's another door to someone's 15 minutes of fame. Quote
Hamby Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I dunno guys.... Some may say that complaining about crap like this is just as pointless as the crap itself. Nobody's making you participate in it. Quote
NateFollmer Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Twitter is just another marketing tool for businesses. I've gotten a lot of discounts and information from twitter from brands I use. It makes sense for business and anyone wanting to get their search engine rankings higher - it's another place to have your site link out there. If you use it for what it's intended for, it works. If you use it to tell everyone what you're doing 24/7, it's dumb. 1 Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I feel almost as though I have to use facebook. It simplifies communication between folks at our boys school, us, parents, football team, parents of the football players etc. When I need to contact parents of kids on the team, I can just post something to facebook instead of sitting down and making 30 different phone calls. Super User J Francho Posted November 16, 2011 Super User Posted November 16, 2011 Can't you just use an email distribution list? I mean all those FB accounts have emails attached to them, and FB doesn't always show everyone what someone else posted. Quote

I could, but facebook is used and checked more frequently than e-mail accounts. Quote

People are tweeting about watching Storage Wars. Just annoying with the reader going across the screen while I'm watching Brandi bounce around on the screen. My "social networking" is on this forum, a local fishing forum, and a HVAC/R trade forum. Had a Facebook account, for about a month, 3 years ago to see what the hype was about. Thought that was the stupidist idea...until now. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 17, 2011 Super User Posted November 17, 2011 No one is forced to be involved with any social network, each has it's place if you choose to participate. I do use facebook, not everyday, but I check out what';s going. For example I'm a member a FB group that has 100's of members that lived in the "old neighborhood" when were going to elementary and high school. It's great to see what some of these people are up to and what they have done with their lives, many these people now live around the globe, it goes so much deeper than just trivial information. FB links me to items of interest that some forums do not allow. The main difference between BR, other forums and FB is available subject matter and the depth you dive into each topic. Quite true FB has a lot of stupid posts, but so does every other forum I have been on. Jigfisherman is right about FB being more effective in some cases than sending out email. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Snook I agree with you. I only have face book because I live so far from family and old frineds. Family is two hours away. Friends are six. Mind you I do call a few friends a few times a year. I don't know if my Facebook page is the only one that dose this. I just don't get a message right away. There are times were I will check my out Facebook and log off. A day later I log back on and have a message. The funny part is it was sent two days ago. After I got some bad news about my uncle a day later then when it was sent. I gave every family member my number. Quote

Remember when the TV had the horizontal hold knob, and you could stretch it past the screen? Do they still have that? Quote

I realized after that month on FB why I lost contact with those people from my past. If there was anything special about those relationships they'd still be around. Part of it may be the older I get the less I care. I have just enough going on in my own life between work and family, that everything else seems so trivial. Quote
