whats everyones thoughts on the skeet reese rods preferably the drop shot rod.

If I were you, I would drive over to D&R sports and have a look yourself. Personally they aren't my favorite. Just based on the observations in store. I think there are other options in that price range that are better rods.

D&R doesn't have tons of rods, but he does have a good selection of brands, and at least a handful of each one.

i work at gander mountain on westnedge in the fishing department and they have the whole skeet reese line but i havent used them at all and didnt know if they were actually a lower end rod or if they were actually a good deal, one guy at D&R told me they were ugly sticks painted yellow but then i have heard from other people they are great rods. if its a good buy i will buy the rod but if not my money will be spent on a higher priced rod such as the new loomis gl2

Haven't used the DS rod but I did have the crankbait rod and wasn't impressed, just couldn't feel my bait very well and it didn't keep fish buttoned very well. I think there is better rods close to that price that are better rods.

1 word. Ew.

MUCH better rods in the same price range.

I actually like the crank rods but the others seem a little heavy in weight for the action they produce. There are better rods for the same money.

I don't have the DS rod, but I happen to own (and really like) the spinnerbait/worm rod. While I wouldn't use it for worming, it is very good with spinnerbaits. I also use it for cranking and IMO it makes a very good rod for Spooks as well. To each his own.

I don't think the Skeet Reese or the new GL2 are worth their money. The St Croix Premier is a great rod in the $100 price range and the Avid or Rage are probably better than the GL2. There are other nice rods in that price range but I recommended these because at my gander mtn, St Croix is the best brand they carry. But if yours has Shimano rods, the Compre, Crucial, and Cumara are all great rods.

Really, there are a TON of rods in that price range. The Abu Rods, Falcon, shimano, BPS, and a bunch of others.

Heck since you work at Gander, IMO they even carry some nice rods. ALL my Musky rods are from them.

First off, Hey from store 165! I'm fishing department at the Flint store.

And I agree with this. I have 4 of the Elite II's and one Titanium, and I love them. I also have 2 Vendetta's, 2 Verita's, and 2 Skeet Reese rods. I like all of them, but the deals we get on our own rods, they can't be beat. The Elite's aren't as lite as some of the others available, not by much, but they are VERY sensitive, and IMO, more comfortable. The Titanium's are very lightweight and very sensitive, which was well worth the 41 dollars I spent on it when they were on clearance

As for the Skeet rods, I'm not sure why I bought the crankbait one in the first place because I almost never throw cranks, so I never take it with me. But I have the Heavy Cover Micro rod, and I do like that rod a lot. Its a perfect rod for punching and throwing frogs, and I would love to have the Micro fluke rod, but being the end of the season, thats money I could use elsewhere.

thanks Chris, you really cant beat the price we get on rods, if only we could get dobyns and ducketts in there i would be a happy man lol.

I bought a skeet reese drop shot rod from walmart.com for $53. It was on clearance but doesnt look like it is anymore. I couldn't pass up that deal. When I got the rod in the mail the eye tip was loose, probably happened from shipping, no big deal I just repaired it myself. I actually liked the rod, good action and pretty lite. If you pay full price for it I think there are better rods. I ended up returning it and getting a mojo bass rod. The skeet reese rod handle was way too long and I do a lot of kayak fishing, the rod handle kept getting in the way.

i most definitely wont be paying full price for it, i will have ATLEAST 20% off the full price maybe more if i order it straight from the warehouse using my gander discount from them

Some rod builders agree that the benefits of building on the spine are negligible.

Who?

I don't doubt that they will fish just fine but I still say it's poor quality control the spine should be lined up on a $200 or a $50 rod (if I'm buying it) thats just part of a nice rod.

I flexed the gl2 drop shot rod and it was lined up but the worm rod was off, I didn't feel any of the other gl2 but I did like the feel of the drop shot rod but that doesn't mean its gonna hold up on the water lol

there isnt much to that, however i will say i expect a decent stick to be built how it should be built, even if there isnt much of if any performance gain. thats what happened when Shimano bought loomis.
