Super User clayton86 Posted November 15, 2011 Super User Posted November 15, 2011 I wanna get into reloading for my .243 because ammo is expensive. I've been looking at some press kits iv been checking out the lee single stage press kit for 90 bucks it's got great reviews. There's also a lee turret press but doesn't seem as nice as the single. Are there any others you would recommend I dot wanna break the bank so that's why I was lookin at the lee breech lock kit for 90. Im also only going to reload .243 right now maybe others later in a year or two but just .243 for now. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 15, 2011 Super User Posted November 15, 2011 I have no idea, but after blowing off $80 in slugs this weekend, I can see why people reload, LOL. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 If it was me I'd look at the RCBS rock chucker kit. The kit is somewhere around 300. Its pretty much all you need though. Its one of the best out there. Buy the kit its cheaper. Hornady may also offer a kit. You can also surf gunbroker for some of this stuff used. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 15, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 15, 2011 Iv looked at the rock chucker but it's a little steep for what I want right now I was supposed to get one off a guy at work but he's been forgetting it for 2 years now lol. I did some quick math with loads and figured a box of reloaded rounds would cost me 7.20 compared to 25 for factory loads. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 15, 2011 Super User Posted November 15, 2011 Reload 20 boxes and it pays for itself. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 15, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 15, 2011 Wouldn't take long I have 8 boxes of spent rounds laying around and I'd shoot em up quicker then I could reloaded them at that price. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Yeah, its a little steep but I've delt with RCBS. They back their products well and so does Hornady. Both are great. I use a hornady 007 I think it is. Its the same as rcbs rock chucker. I'd save a little more and buy the better one. Believe me its alot less hassle in the end and the final results and ease of use will be alot more too. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 15, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 15, 2011 Yeah could wait for tax return and buy that and stock up on powder and bullets Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I just saw RCBS has a 50 dollar rebate. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted November 16, 2011 Super User Posted November 16, 2011 I got the lee kit for my first reloader (I was also low on cash) & it worked ok to a point. If you try to resize 30-06 the Lee press will struggle a bit, & the scales work but are junk... I now have a Rock Chucker with Redding scales & only use the Lee to seat the bullets. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 25, 2011 Author Super User Posted November 25, 2011 Ok well my reloading dreams are still alive and kicking I'm gonna save up for a rcbs turret press but in the meantime my father inlaw has a Lyman kit I think it is he's only got pistol dies but it will do rifle cases. I'm gonna try to see what he has and what I will need iv seen the parts spread all over I think iv seen everything but a powder measure and case trimmer. Is there other things that I should get that's usually not included in kits. I have micrometers and calipers from my engine building days so I think I got that part covered. Quote
boystcroix Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 RCBS and Hornady kits are both on sale now until the end of year at cabelas and midway Quote
Super User bigbill Posted February 23, 2012 Super User Posted February 23, 2012 Watch www.midwayusa.com for sales and clearances on reloading kits. Buy the whole setup one shot. Or go to a gun show and look for it all. Quote
