Kingbass43 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 so i was gonna get one of these fros and i wanted to kno how they were and how the performed and what color i should probably get it in if i do get one cause ive heard there are some colored frogs better than others but anyways ive just heard a mixed ammount of reviews! thanks Quote
mike304 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 great frogs. If I was going to buy just one I'd start with either natural frog or black Quote
Shimmer Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Black or White are the most commonly used colors I believe. Quote
NOVA Angler Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I have had good success with White/Black. It's black on the bottom and white on top with white and black strands. I prefer the Spo Jr. as the plastic seems softer and my hookups are better. I would think that whtie and black would be the two main colors you would want to have. Quote
Kingbass43 Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 wow the jr looks nice i love that black and blue! Quote
FishDontLikeMe1301600221 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 the best...WHITE,white and black (i beleive its called phantom),ive had great luck with the baby duck, and then the natural and yellow/white one. Quote

Kingbass43 Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 thats awesome is there anything certain i HAVE to fish it with i have the spinning rell but wat about the line i heard its gotte be big i think the most i have is 15 pound test ive heard it has to be 20 or 60 or somethi around there Quote
Gangley Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 depends on what you are fishing it around. I prefer 30 Power Pro Braid when using a frog because I am generally around lilly pads, weeds, and brush. If you have minimal greenery in teh area, your line should be fine, but if you have a lot of vegetation, go 20 lb mono or flouo as a minimum. Quote

You'ld be locked up. Im bad but that post needs an ambulance. Mark Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 4, 2009 Super User Posted August 4, 2009 I honestly don't think the color matters all that much. It looks pretty much the same from below anyway, IMO. I fish hollow bodied frogs in slop with thick vegetation and/or lily pads so I fish it on 50lb braid. Quote

I toss mine on a H/F flipping stick with 65lb braid. Quote
Kingbass43 Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 ah ok but why so heavy i mean sure there are big fish in lakes and weeds could get on but isnt this frog weedless? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 5, 2009 Super User Posted August 5, 2009 It's not weedless when a fish bites it and takes it down into the lily pad roots. Lily pad roots have 18.2lb breaking points. If the fish wraps you around 2 roots... :-X Quote

NewAngler Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Great f-ing post! I was gonna start a frog thread tonight. Not gonna stealk the thread, but quick question- I goitta snag proof frog, its weighted (donno the weight) and bright green. Anyone seen this? Any good? Quote
Koop Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Midnight walker (black), Albino (white), Natural Green and Black Putty are my top 4 producing hollow belly spro BE 65 colors. I throw 50# braid minimum when frogging, that is only because the pads and veg are not as thick in my area as some others. Some places I spool 65# braid when going to fish there. Now braid has a smaller diameter than its equivalent in mono just fyi encase you didn't know that. I have a friend who throws frogs with 15# Fluro and 30# braid on spinning setups. Just dont be upset if you get broken off. I wouldn't throw spro's on that set up... to expensive but if I had to, throwing zoom horny toads wouldn't be bad. I actually prefer horny toads to spro, they are my go to frog bait, and if you get broken off your not out a $10 bait rather 1 out of a 5 pack of $3.25. Quote
EastMarkME Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I have a rod in the wings and am waiting on a reel to set up just for frogs/heavy cover/jigs. Whats everyones preference for line ? Whats the best frog ? I see a few opinions so far. Any others ? Mark Quote

Mark As stated above, my favorites / preferences: Line: 30-65# fireline braid (area/vegitation dependent) Frogs: Zoom Horny Toads in White/Black/Black blue legs and the discontinued Chartreuse that I am now forced to make home made by dipping the white ones in chartreuse JJ's Magic. DINK WHISPERER Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Spro and Rage Tail frogs/toads are by far the best imo! No other frog in their class performs as well! I always throw mine on 65lb FireLine braid and a H/F or better rod. Froggin excels in the slop and that is no place for sissy gear imo!!! Quote
NOVA Angler Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 ah ok but why so heavy i mean sure there are big fish in lakes and weeds could get on but isnt this frog weedless? Vegetation isn't the only reason to use braid. It doesn't stretch like mono and flouro so hooksets are much better, especially on long casts. With that said, I'm usually tossing frogs over milfoil, hydrilla, and pads so I use 50lb. Power Pro. I would also recommend Berkley Fireline Braid. Quote
Kingbass43 Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 Ok thats guys and thanks for just tellin me i know somewhere i would be chewed out by now haha and i do need new line the 10 pound i use is cheap and no good i have some 15 pound but i think ill get some 20-30 pound line when i go to academy sports tonight or tomorrow!
