Rod Suggestion While On A Budget

Whats going on everyone? Recently I received an Abu Garcia Silver max reel. Which rod should I pair it with? I'll be doing mostly bank fishing, so I looking for an all purpose rod with 50 to 90 dollar price range? What do you guys suggest?!

St.Croix Triumph or any of the Shimano rods in that range would be good multipurpose rods.

Personally, I'm not that much into specific brands as the features I want. I've done a lot of bank fishing and for a general purpose rod I'd recommend a 6'6" or 7' with fast action and M or MH power. It's extremely important to me to have a handle that's relatively short, so when I find one I want I'll buy it regardless of brand. There are loads of brands out there that will perform well.

Any of the $100 or less Abu's, Shimano's or St Croix's would be good choices.

Daiwa VIP Smallmouth for $60. I just got a 6'9"M Spinning rod and I am BLOWN AWAY with how nice it is. It has the same blank construction as the Zillion Rods, Alconite Guides (same as an Avid) and a full cork handle and a Life Time Warranty. I am contemplating getting a couple more.

when fishing from the bank, consider the surroundings where you will fish.

A rod 7' or more can be very cumbersome with vegetation/brush/trees around you.

Our back yard borders a creek that has some nice bass in it. I end up having to use a 6'6 rod to fish it, because of the overhead tree.

I normally don't use a rod that short on the lake unless I'm tossing jerkbaits.

The Field & Stream Tec Spec is a good choice in that price range but in fishing from the bank as someone mentioned there are obstacles with a 7' rod that might make it too cumbersome. I fish from the bank as well and only take my 7' casting outfits when I know I'm going to a lake with a clear shoreline. As someone else also said there are so many rods out that anyone you pick is bound to work well and any brand as well.

Academy has a rod its a H2O Ethos or something like that, its Blue blank and split cork grip at 50ish bucks with Fuji ACS seat and Alconite guides.. I played with one looking for some loaner sticks for boat guests as one to many of my old Loaner sticks got broke (Two Loomis IMX Sticks and 1 Croix LTB as you can see my guests get nice gear to use) in a month while taking guests on guided trips because of Dummys high sticking and setting REALLY hard on hangups lol so anyhow I didnt buy any but I was wowed at how nice those sticks feel for the money. If you have one in your area I would go take a good look at them they feel like a nice stick, First thing I noticed was how crisp they felt and very very light in weight and balanced very well with a Daiwa TD-A 153 HSTA on it (I asked them to let me see one they had behind the counter because thats the reels I provide on guided trips and they balanced at about 1 1/2in in front of reel thats very very good for any split grip stick yet less one at 50 bucks.so any 8oz or so reel will balance well and that was on a 7 foot Heavy stick)

Im going back in a few days and I will pick up 6-7 of them I would have bought them that day but they didnt have my tax exempt paper work on file at that store so I left without them and will pick them up the next time im there. The 7 foot Heavy seemed like it would make a really nice low budget Buzz Toad stick and worms and jigs as well even a Frog rod in a pinch!

For $10 more consider the Fenwick HMG. I bought one recently and was very pleasantly surprised. I have several Shimano Crucials and the HMG I just bought is pretty darn close performance wise. I also have a St Croix Triumph but haven't been too impressed with it.

On the lower end price wise, consider the Berkley Lighting Rod.

I asked almost the same question 2 months ago and a few people suggested the Berkley and I bought one for $29. It's a darn good rod for the money.

But if you have the extra $10 or so dollars to spend try the Fenwick HMG, it's an excellent rod for the money.

If you're in the Atlanta area I have a couple BPS Carbonlite rods (6'6" MH spinning and 7' M casting) that I'm not using and would part with fairly cheap.

I'd let the pair go for $100.
