Ima Bass Ninja Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Been thinking of getting one more baitcast reel a rotate out on old pfluger purist that i use. I am torn between these two. Gimmie your thoughts and which one you would choose thanks. Cabela's Prodigy B- on sale 69.99 Pflueger Trion- On sale in town for 59.99 Thanks Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 10, 2011 Super User Posted November 10, 2011 Either would be fine. The Cabela's is a store branded Daiwa. Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 10, 2011 Super User Posted November 10, 2011 The Prodigy is an insanely nice reel for the $! I have the previous model (grey/green model) and bought it used... It out casts all my Curados, Revos, Citicas, and Pro Qualifiers. It's such a big difference that I have backlashed because I get stuck watching the bait fly out over the water saying WOW to myself and forgetting my thumb . The Pflueger is a nice reel from what I have seen from some of the other guys in my club (I have never used one). I'd take the Prodigy, it's based off the Daiwa Advantage so there are a billion spares and upgrades for it if you wanted to go that far with it. Just my 2 cents. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 10, 2011 Super User Posted November 10, 2011 it's based off the Daiwa Advantage Not this one. It's based off the Aggrest. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I have a couple of the older model Prodigy reels and really like them and have had no issues with them at all. If the new models are comparable to the Aggrest then I might have to invest in one at the sale price as well. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Dawia makes a nice spinning reel. The Pfugler should be pretty nice too, my buddy uses them and they hold up well. But Id go with the Dawia NGaHB Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 Thanks for the responses guys.. I actually ended up gettin real lucky and it goes along with another thread i saw on the forum. Long story short i saw a pfluger president on display that was marked $59.99 so i asked the clerk if it was correct, when he checked he said it was actually $139.99 so i told him that i thought is was mi-smarked but wanted to check and it was no problem, so he talked to the manager who ended up sellin it to me for the marked price. YAY ME!!! 2 Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted November 12, 2011 Super User Posted November 12, 2011 I have the previous Prodigy model. An Internet friend cleaned, polished, installed Carbontex drag, and ABEC5 bearings. He couldn't believe how well this reel performed afterward. It is well worth the money stock and at the normal price. He feels it is one of the better reels in this price range. I like the looks of the newer one better, but have no idea how it compares. Should be good, tho. I recently picked up a couple Trions after reading all the reviews on them. Can't comment on how well they work because I haven't fished one yet, but they should perform way above their price point according to what I've read. Check out the reviews here if you haven't already. http://reviews.basspro.com/2010/44483/pflueger-pflueger-trion-low-profile-baitcast-reel-reviews/reviews.htm Quote
northern basser Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 The prodigy is a nice reel. A little big and a little heavy, but a good performer none the less. Quote
