Nice_Bass Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I have got to go fishing with you at Clinton! I would love to learn that lake, everytime I go its very tough to fish.... For sure! Quote
Rand Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Thanks nice_bass. Do you think Newton is doable with just trolling motor on a 10' jon boat. Or should I pony up for a small outboard (which I've been putting off) Rand Quote

Or should I pony up for a small outboard (which I've been putting off) Rand No problem. If I remember correctly the lake is only around 1700 acres, so the right trolling motor and batteries could get you around fine. I ran on just my TM, and you dont really have to cover the whole lake. I would get out there and fish first prior to buying the motor...unless you really want that motor which is understandable. Quote
bwell Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Buy an extra battery instead of a outboard... but like nice bass said you should have a problem, just make sure your battery is fully charged. Quote
Rand Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 Thanks for the info b well. Much appreciated. Quote

Nice_Bass Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Clinton bass were fair- nothing huge but all very fat and healthy. Crappie were very good, balled out at the mouths of coves- looks like they are getting ready to move in. Quote

general3380 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 It's a little further drive for you but Lake of Egypt is about 12 miles south of me...awesome lake. It is a power plant lake, produces some pretty awesome fishing. You can catch fish off the main lake, but this lake has lots of little fingers. And don't overlook the banks on the main lake. There are houses on roughly 50%-60% of the lake...if you are having trouble boating fish, start flipping the docks, almost fail proof on that lake. Make sure and pay attention to your fish finder...lots of hidden brush piles that hold fish. If you want a real treat, hit it at night Quote
bwell Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I thought you couldn't fish any of the docks at Egypt... I was pretty sure I heard that you have to be at least 10ft away from any dock if you are fishing. Quote

general3380 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Technically, you aren't suppose to, I'm not an outlaw or anything but as long as you aren't beating jigs off of there boats 99% of them don't mind. Most of them fish too so they are ok. The way I see it as long as you are being respective and don't damage property I don't think there is a problem with it. I have flipped docks there for years and I haven't ever had anybody get on to me...I guess that doesn't mean it's right though.... Quote
bwell Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I will be fishing there Sept in our club classic, and was told docks are off limits because of that rule on the lake. Oh well, I am sure there is other good structure on that lake. Quote
