Rand Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I live in Indianapolis. This winter I am going to make a trek to Illinois to fish a power plant lake. I would like to stay within the 3 hour drive time. Any Illinois residents fish power plant lakes in state. If I am going to make the drive I would like it to be to a productive body of water. Thanks ahead of time Rand Quote
oteymc Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I live over here in Terre Haute. Everyone says that Newton is great, haven't been there yet though. Thought I would try it this winter also. Quote
Rand Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 Newton has always pretty legit. I am chomping at the bit. Rand Quote
Crockus Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Do some checking I heard newton is shut down for construction or something. I live about 3.5hrs north of it. It is great for fishing. Quote
Rand Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Thanks Crockus. Will look into it. Rand Quote
bwell Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 You can still fish Newton, they just had a tournament Saturday with 34lb bag winning it with a 6 fish limit! Quote
bwell Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 No problem, I hope to head that way soon after I finish wiring up my jon boat. Quote

Rand Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Can I use my outboad, 50HP Merc, to put the boat on and off the trailer at Lake Newton? Quote
Rand Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 Anyone with info on whether or not I can use outboard at the ramp? Rand Quote
TheSaladYears Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I do not know Rand. Heard some people talking about Brainwood. Said it was good. fyi Quote
Nice_Bass Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Im not a huge fan of Clinton, its a tough lake to fish... I usually kill them on clinton- wipers and bass alike. I still think the numbers and size beats anything I go to in IL. Too d**n windy around these parts lately- have not been for a couple of weeks now, but the cold end of the lake should be really ripe right now. Quote
bwell Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I have got to go fishing with you at Clinton! I would love to learn that lake, everytime I go its very tough to fish.... Quote
Rand Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Still no one knows whether I can use the outboard @ the ramp for Newton. Rand Quote
Nice_Bass Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Still no one knows whether I can use the outboard @ the ramp for Newton. Rand I know I used my big motor to get out- dont recall anything against it but have not been down in years. Since that is not the answer you really want, IDNR contact info is below, give them a call and I am sure they would be happy to help.
