SENKOSAM Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Recently I paid over $600 for engine repairs, some of which involved gas line rot from ethanol, screwing up my fuel pump and three carbs. Other than the red Stabil gas additive, a friend told me about Stabil that looks like motor oil but that protects against ethanol damage. He said he thought it also increased performance. Anyone use it or other additive for the same reason? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 9, 2011 Super User Posted November 9, 2011 I use Stabil Blue Marine Formula. Quote
JacobK Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I use Stabil Blue Marine Formula. Same, along with everyone else i know. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I use Stabil Blue Marine Formula. Yup and sea foam. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 9, 2011 Super User Posted November 9, 2011 I run Quick Kleen all the time and if I'm not going for a while I fill up and put Sea Foam in. I run Sea Foam in all my mowers, weedeaters, etc. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted November 9, 2011 Super User Posted November 9, 2011 Seafoam for me. It does what Stabil Marine Formula does plus it de-carbons. It preserves for a longer period of time also. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 10, 2011 Super User Posted November 10, 2011 What's the difference between red stabil and marine stabil? I've been using red and seafoam for 10 years and haven't had issues. Quote

JacobK Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 What's the difference between red stabil and marine stabil? I've been using red and seafoam for 10 years and haven't had issues. red is cherry flavored while blue is blueberry. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 10, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 10, 2011 Frank!! Glad to have you back! I use Marine Stabil ALL the time, year round, plus Ringfree, in every tankful without fail. Marine Stabil is twice as concentrated as the pink Stabil, plus it has a few extra additives. Don't be a stranger Frank! Quote
Sfritr Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Seafoam all the time, every time. In every engine I own Quote
scbassin Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I use the non ethanol fuel. It cost a little more & is readily available around here. Quote
SENKOSAM Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 Thanks everyone!! I've been pulling my hair out trying to find some form of protection from ethanol rot. Marine Stabil and Sefoam I'm going to use regularly. Hi Glen I'll post a cool perspective on brush guards as soon as I copy and paste from another forum. It's only logical. Frank Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted November 10, 2011 Super User Posted November 10, 2011 I use Star-tron or the red Stable all the time, never had any problems. Quote
rboat Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I have been using the red stabil for many years without any problems. I also add seafoam a couple times each year to clean out deposits. It works great! Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted November 11, 2011 Super User Posted November 11, 2011 Startron, every time, all the time. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Does anyone not use stabil in their gas? Quote
Goldstar225 Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Marine Stabil all the time, plus pulling the fuel line and running my engine out of gas before pulling the boat from the water if I won't be fishing within a couple of days. I run a tank treated with seafoam 3-4 times a year. Quote
boystcroix Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I use marine Stabil also , every tankful. The last tankful I ran I tried a product called Ethanol Shield that was recommended to me from the owner of a small enginge shop our garage deals with, it was a free sample to me so I'll see how it works. Super User ww2farmer Posted November 14, 2011 Super User Posted November 14, 2011 Star-tron in every tank, Seafoam a couple times a year. Did use the blue marine Sta-bil for a few years, but had gas problems out of storage this past spring, so I switched to Star-tron. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 14, 2011 Super User Posted November 14, 2011 I use the marine Sta-Bil. It seems to work OK. Quote
SENKOSAM Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Note: Stabil Marine is $20 for 32 oz. on Amazon - much cheaper than buying the smaller amounts from Walmart which came to over $34 for 3-10 oz containers. S/H for me was free because of Prime membership ($79/yr). Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 14, 2011 Super User Posted November 14, 2011 My local Gander Mtn had it for about $20 for the 32 oz. Quote
BrianSnat Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Anybody try Star Brite Star Tron? I want to the local tackle and marine store yesterday looking for either Seafoam or Marine Stabil and they were out. They did have one bottle of Star Brite Star Tron left so I bought it. It seems I need to use very little. I had 3 gallons of gas left in my tank so I just put a splash of the stuff in the tank because they called for 1 oz for 8 gallons. Is the stuff any good? Quote
